Nitty guy at the table bets into us on the nut worst river card? Fold.

But obviously he was bluffing because it's a thread.

Typically I'd consider making a small flop cbet here (there is a decent chance our hand is good here, we're not WA/WB with the draws and overs). With the aggro guy in the hand (I'm assuming we're not short enough to be comfortable playing for stacks) I don't mind the check back.

If the nittiest guy at the table is nitty (which is table dependent), then we have to consider a hero fold here.

I'd like to know the result here. If we're going to fold the absolute top of our range, we need to be correct. How deep does the read on nitty villian go?

I tanked for about 3 minutes and folded. No way he checks a lower set twice or calls the turn with 88. I think he's nitty enough that he doesn't value bet 2p on a nasty river even if it's checked to him. Never found out what he had, sorry.

The nitty read comes from playing with him for about 8 hours straight before this hand, and from chit chatting with him out on the smoking balcony. I think he had Axhh.

After I folded I kind of looked at him expectantly and he looked disappointed and said "you had 3 jacks" and I nodded yeah, and he shook his head and said "I can't believe you folded, I don't know how you fold 3 jacks." In print you could take that to mean he was happy, but in person he was clearly frustrated.

Nice fold; if he put you on a set of jacks (which readability-wise makes perfect sense the way you played the hand) he would probably almost always show a worse hand for tilting purposes, no?

Thanks for filling in, nice fold. Sounds like you had plenty to go on in real time, and afterwards to feel good about it.
