A reg in my game got torched by Bart Hanson on a livestream review A reg in my game got torched by Bart Hanson on a livestream review

Just thought this was funny and wanted to share. I was watching an old crush live poker video on youtube and saw one of the regs i play with all the time on the livestream make horrendous plays.

I actually thought this guy was a pro (just not a very good one) because he's literally there all the time. I didnt know how he could not be unless hes just independently wealthy. And he was always winning huge for the first few sessions i played with him. But the more i played with him i realized he was just running like a god and he is way too loose but is still better than 90% of the field. But then i saw his livestream play and now I have an enormous edge that he will have no idea that i have. Not too mention i now know that his range is not just wide, its absurdly wide.

If I said it once I said it a thousand times just because someone's there every day doesn't at all mean he's a pro. Even most of the regs you see there all the time aren't even above break even.

I once played with a LAG who I saw interviewed on one of the lower-quality coaching sites as one of their "successful students" and he basically explained his whole game in 15 minutes. Needless to say he hated being in hands with me from that point on (not that he liked to be before it or anything).

I guess i was just trying to explain how this guy can be there every day and not be a pro? Maybe lottery winner? Family money? Sold a house for massive profit up north and bought cheap in FL and hes playing with the proceeds? Who knows. Anyway, you are right after a couple sessions im like i dont see how this guy can be a pro because im not and hes nowhere near my skill level.

I play with a LOT of guys like this. A lot of them are retired, some sold their businesses so they have a lot of money on hand with nothing to do, while others are married and their wives have good paying jobs, and a lot of the younger guys are still living at home with no bills (not including cell phone bills) so they don't care if they're barely breaking even. I also played with a serial bank robber who kept robbing banks, losing all the money, robbing another one and coming back again to play.

Hahaha. Man playing w a serial bank robber would be the absolute best. How easy would it to be to punt off ill gotten gains. Kind of like some of the dope boys that come in and play

Tourney binks are responsible for a lot of whale'ish players you see somehow surviving for years on end. I know a guy who won the lawsuit lottery. There are also a significant amount of small business/franchise owners who do well enough to support their play. I knew a lady who owned a single subway sandwich shop and I think she said she made something like 250k/year from it. Drove a nice mercedes and lived in an affluent neighborhood. Now imagine if she owned 3. Dont forget a lot of disgusting incomes paid through corporate america. I play with a "business administrator" who casually mentioned he was down 50k at 1/2 PLO barely 6 months into the year like it was nothing, almost to be expected. I had another similar guy outright ask me once "do you actually win at this game?" as if to suggest the idea was preposterous. When I said yes he looked surprised like he found a unicorn.

I'll say this much, grab yourself a VPIP app and track a few players you're curious about. Some guys who I had previously believed had a strong aggressive image were revealed to just be outright lunatics. I knew they were loose but not 82% vpip loose.

This is good stuff. Ive realized as ive been playing live more and more that you can hugely increase your win rate by socializing as so many people play to kill time and donate money they dont feel they deserve. Ive started chatting up all the fish regs and getting real cool w them and even the other regs. I used to go in and keep my head down and not talk to anyone like a douche.

Example A: a few months ago in a bomb pot i had 2 pair on one board and nothing on the other. I had been chatting w this guy. One player was all in already and we get to the river and he makes a big bet. I tanked and then looked at him and asked which board he was playing. He didnt even think about the answer and just blurted out both like it was obvious. I looked back at the boards and realized QJ made a different straight on each board and i hadnt even noticed it on one of the boards. I folded and he indeed had QJ and then looked at me and said oh **** i just told you and laughed at his mistake.

Example B: I'm chatting it up with this guy and he in turn gets into a big discussion w his buddy about the topic in the middle of a hand. Flop check check. Turn check and i bet 8 high no draw to steal it and he calls. River check and i check back. I say what you got and hes in the middle of this conversation and just throws it in the muck without me showing my hand. It was a $80 pot.

This is very true. Ive started noticing players i thought were good and loose and just bad loose in reality. In the livestream in question this particular player called a 2/3 pot flop bet w 10 high and no draw in a raised pot and Bart Hanson was like i dont even know what tf this guy is up to haha

People play differently on stream. But that doesn't mean the guy isn't bad, he may well be.

Also sometimes good players can get splashy at times. Could be tilt, boredom, maintaining an image, or because they legitimately think their postflop edge is that strong that they can get away with it.

Then there are players that are constantly way out of line, very splashy, and clearly in way too many pots. Especially when these players are playing lower stakes, but used to playing higher stakes, sometimes they will run hot and have a certain mystique. Crazy bluffs, structuring with backdoors that get there and get paid off. Is this the LAG they speak of on 2+2? But if you play with these guys enough and follow them to the higher stakes, you realize they are mega-whales. They might be really intelligent. They may have some abnormally good skills - hand reading, live tells, bluffing. But the ranges and strategies they play are just losing.

And yes, these players are typically independently wealthy and/or very high income earners.

This is a strategy forum. There really isn't any strat ITT, so I'm going to lock it up.
