Yeah looks cool. One of the issues is visiting these campuses. We have visited a few that she is applying to (UNC, BC and Virginia Tech amongst her favorite) but the tour we were going to do this past summer couldn't happen due to COVID. Our theory is we will tour once she knows her options. Her 2 biggest reaches are Duke and UCLA (I think she is doubtful to get in to either tho).

One of my best friends has a daughter that goes to and plays field hockey at Miami and they rave about it and the town of Oxford. She knows exactly what she wants to major in so that narrowed the focus a bit.

I am coming off what has been by far my longest gym layoff in my life. A shade under 7 months since really hitting it hard. Currently doing less work than warm up weight, not trying to be a hero and just trying to get back in action.

Its quite humbling to be as sore as I am doing 2 sets o 5 skwats @ 135 (first "leg workout").

back in march was doin 5x8 @ 280 - hoping it doesnt take more than 3 months to get back in form

It's been a long time, but when I went to school I lived in a kind of ghetto area a little off of campus. I think it was in Ypsilanti. It was an apt complex called Evergreen something. I remember these drug dealers always hanging out at the entrance and mean mug me every day I'm coming back home. I was playing like 4-5hrs of basketball every day back in those days though so I was never worried for my safety.

Often times I went to the Med Sci building to study because it was always empty. But it had a funny smell. Someone told me it was because they kept the preserved cadavers there. Don't know if it was true or not but seemed reasonable.

Dude my working squat weight is about where you were in March. I have squatted maybe 6-8 times since the gyms opened back up. I got back to working weight relatively quick but tweaked my knee playing golf a few weeks ago

So last week I decided to do super slow squats with a hold at the bottom. Only got to 225 and I was absolutely drenched in sweat. Was sore as a MFer the next morning too.

Upshot...no reason to be a hero or try for any 1RM when we are the old ****ers in the gym

I’m doing individual leg work only as rehab for a major strength imbalance that I think has been causing a lot of my back issues the past 10 years.
The glute and hamstring soreness I suffered the first month from doing all the lunges, Bulgarian and other stuff was remarkable. Even now I missed training my legs at the end of last week and I’m terrified of what happens after my session today

Have not gone for a max in forever and have zero interest in that. Sat was my furst day back and told myself DO NOT BE A HERO. I stuck to the plan - it was just shocking how little made me as sore as I was.

Yep this getting old stuff is def a challenge. I am ramping it up slowly. Sat was my first workout and did 2 sets - today I went hog wild and did 3, hopefully I will be able to walk tomorrow...WTF

If you ever want to know what your 1 rep max is, just see what you can do for 5 and add 300lbs.

Son did almost same. Saw Duke, UVA, UNC with his stretch being Princeton. Kinda last minute had a frat reunion at Miami and drug him there with me. He was sold on MU the first day. (Made the other three but not P). No regrets. Made the lax team...then decided not to play MCLA ball because of time commitment.

Yes it has been great. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who's a little tight on space but wants that kind of set up.

What I learned in my downtime is that no amount of dumb bell work can substitute what you can get out of barbells in terms of lifting heavy.

Tips to increase yer bench

1. Roll up a towel and lay it down your torso the long way in the center
2. Really drop the bar hard on it and get a good bounce
3. You are waay to stable really get your legs moving independently almost like you are having a convulsion
4. really focus on lifting your ass off the bench
5. you need to yell more
