idk I kind of am of the philosophy that the player should be responsible to read the board and table their hand.

I probably wouldn't say anything.

But wouldn't fault someone for prompting the dealer.

A gets the pot. Not even close

I mean best tabled hand wins. I would consider announcing confidently "straight" to be something of an angle, although it's more likely it was meant as a joke than an attempt to get the other guy to muck. If he didn't say anything and just tabled, meh.

Cards speak, so if the other guy showed and then mucked, I'd correct it. If he just flat mucks though, his prerogative.

If I was a football fan I'd do $400 for a conference final in a heartbeat. You might remember that game for the rest of your life and it would be even cooler being there.

You must be in possession of 7 cards ... 2 hole cards plus 5 community cards.

If you muck your 2 hole cards, then you are only in possession of 5 cards.

NFL games had some of the worst seats, ncaa seats were pretty good. Didn't matter, you can't really tell who on the field and I often had trouble tracking the play. Then there's so much down time in football that you miss the other half of the plays because you're talking to buddies. If you condrnse a football game it's really only like 20 minutes of action. With replay on TV we don't really notice.

I wouldn't see a football game live unless game itself is meaningful to you or it's a social event.
I cannot converse with anyone since the advent of jumbortions and 'piped in' music. Not sure how anyone could.

In this case speaking up is helping player B, violating 1 player to a hand.

Action should go:
A tables a hand.
Dealer reads the hand (a straight)
If player B then mucks then all is well.

If dealer says says anything other than "straight" or "straight, 10 high" then theres likely a problem. I.e. he cant say "straight on the board" or something stupid like that.

I don't understand what your first comment means? The game was in 1997...

The second I don't think it's really the same thing. 1. the hand is over. You are not helping with any decision or influencing any action.

But like I said I think players should be responsible for at least tabling their hand. If you don't, tough luck. Dumbass tax.

I hope the story turns around.

if i'm friendly with player B i would say something to him quietly after the hand

other than that, just keeping my mouth shut.

action wise, sounds like player A wins the pot

if you haven't accidentally mucked a winning/chopping hand, you havent played poker long enough...

I’m probably unusual but I let a player retrieve his cards from the muck a few sessions ago on a hand we chopped. Gave up 100bb. It’s also a private game fwiw and those are the kind of things that cause a player to be invited back or not.

The sad reality is that I have personally seen and heard this story countless times. I am quite certain Chip is gunna get a lot of hate for this. It should serve as a warning but sadly the people that need to hear it the most will not.

Best of luck Chip.

Thanks.

I've never hidden any part of my journey and I honestly don't care what people think of the decisions I have made.

Everything finds it's way back to MS. 80K.

Hey Chip,
I kinda figgered you didn't care. Otherwise you would not have poasted up yer story (as countless others have obviously not posted up their hardships trying to make a go of gamboolin). Maybe people will be nice...they have been so far. Just seems like this is the kind of thing that people love to pile on and use hindsight to blame the OP for just about everything, rather than understanding the reality that trying to conjure up $ outta nothing day in and day out in order to pay for life is damn fcuking hard.

I truly hope you are ok and find your way. Are you going to Mississippi (MS?)

Do you have short term lodging arranged? It seems dicey to me to move back in the dead of winter with next to nothing

This is sort of how it went down. I know people misreading the board and mucking winners happens somewhat regularly, but this was the first time I've seen someone muck AFTER the first player showed the board. Only reason A even showed initially was to show he got sucked out on since he had the straight on the turn but got counterfeited on the river.

Player B sort of pushed his cards slightly forward without saying anything. The Dealer sort of surprisingly asked him "are you mucking?" After he grabbed his cards and mucked him A half joking/half serious said something like "Don't ask him what he's doing, just give me my money!"

I'm beginning to think Priority A is going to be getting a medical opinion on how unhealthy I am.

I can't walk more than 100 feet without sitting.

I can't stand for any length of time.

I am some level of depressed.

I'm not sure if I can get disability but it might be time to take that shot.

Good luck, Chip.

I don't know what exactly the requirements are for disability in the US but do look into it. A staggering amount of people do not apply for social assistance programs that are designed to help people in their exact situation, believing it's for other people and they don't need it. Those are serious problems preventing you from living a normal productive life.

I had actually read it the same way you did. And made the same inference.
