If warm weather is an inhibitor to covid-19, that will force us to re-examine our position on Global Warming. People in the north would be wise to migrate south.

Politics aside, the House bill passed today will provide some relief to those hit hardest over the next few weeks (hopefully not months).

Would also like to see us pop out $1 trillion in 50 year treasuries at 1% and use the money for a 3 months UBI for all adults. Maybe also throw on another $1T with the same structure for an infrastructure plan.

(On the political side, if Trump supported something extreme like that and we staved off a serious, ongoing recession it would help his campaign immensely.)

Pretty sure we will be firing off a couple of stimulus packages just not sure what they will look like. The payroll tax cut sounds nice but is too limited and doesn't provide enough at the low end of the wage scale to provide enough stimulus as it is a drip. Situation like this you need to open the faucet.

I don’t get the point of a payroll tax cut being all that helpful if you’ve got waves of people suddenly unemployed due to the current state of affairs.

Politically speaking, if the Dems are smart (IF), they have scores of “COVID-19 no big deal” footage to exploit for the next 8 months.

All of America’s leaders at all levels had their thumbs up their ass for too long (starting with the lack of testing) and now they’re firefighting. Canada has only been a bit better but LOL our PM is in self isolation already.

Where it does help is with manufacturers/other business facing a smaller decline in orders/sales. A payroll tax cut could be enough in some cases to help them avoid layoffs. It is a more direct subsidy to them than the UBI type stimulus. Ideally a combo approach of some sort would be best.

went to the super market today. I live in polk county (armpit of fla) so it is not big time metropolitan. Shelves were reasonably stocked. No toilet paper/hand sanitizer. Some of the cookie shelves were baron but other than that normal. Has any one had issues with their food supply?

The grocery stores I was in yesterday in LOL Saskatchewan had no:

Toilet paper
Paper towel
Hand sanitizer
Dry pasta
Flour

Everything else looked normal.

What about the Spam? I'm just glad most people are prepping noobs and going for the stuff I don't care about. I can live for the next 12 months on the rice, spam, and kimchi I have.

Everything around me stripped like a plague of locusts hit. Most fresh meat is gone. All eggs are gone and milk is either low or out. Same with cheese. Dry pasta, soups, and other shelf stable foods also out.

Some fresh produce is available but there was a heavy run on canned and frozen foods.

About what I expected so I had padded my emergency stash back around 03/01 so no effect on me.

Good news is it is temporary as the grocery supply chain is currently unaffected. After this weekend you may see runs on shelves in some areas as there will be some spot panic buying.
