Best hand I've played recently, and my thoughts during it:
$5/5 6-handed
Hero opens 65 UTG to $20. Button calls. BB calls.
This open is slightly loose, but these donkeys don't 3-bet enough and we play better than they do post-flop, so whatever.
Flop AJ8 (pot $65)
BB checks. Hero checks. Button bets $30. BB folds. Hero calls.
Pretty standard check here. We shouldn't bet every flush draw, and this one makes sense to check and possibly bluff later. Once button bets and BB folds we can call closing the action. If BB had called we would fold, as we don't want to draw to this multi-way.
Turn K (pot $125)
Hero checks. Button bets $60. Hero calls.
We hit, but our hand is basically a really good bluff catcher and villain is repping a stronger hand or a bluff. We just call down here, as we don't really care about anything other than a 4th
.
River K (pot $245)
Hero checks. Button bets $40. Hero?
What is this $40 garbage? We were going to call down, but this bet looks to me like villain was bluffing with something like KQ, hit trips, and now is trying to get cute by betting $40 because he doesn't think his hand is worth more than that. We're going to punish this sucker for making a bad bet.
Hero raises to $150. Button is all-in for $300. Hero?
Oops, he 3-bet jammed on us, I guess we fold? Who bluffs like this? Nah, I'm still not buying that villain actually has KJ and decided to just bet $40 on the river. This still looks really FOS.
Hero calls. Villain says "flush is good" and tables KQo. LOL ship it.
