This is brutal. Guy at the table barely knows how the action of the game goes, speaks effectively no english, and is taking forever on every decision needing prompting from the dealer.

There is no such thing as "stout-porter." They are distinct styles that are both dark. Guinness is (imo) the quintessential dry Irish stout. You could even make an argument that dry Irish is the default stout style, so it's the quintessential stout.

As for porters, Black Butte for the American style that is roastier and more similar to stouts than the British version, and Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter for the British version, which leans a bit more towards the brown ale side of things, and tend to be a little funkier than the American version.

There's a good rundown of beer styles here.
I found it on the Wikipedia just yesterday

Quote:
The name "stout", used for a dark beer, is believed to have come about because strong porters were marketed under such names as "extra porter", "double porter", and "stout porter". The term stout porter would later be shortened to just stout.

Considering putting 5K or so down on upcoming baseball season.
Should be easier $ than running KK into AA every other session imo.
I definitely believe that it’s way harder than a decade ago.
Would be awesome to have some whiz like Holzhauer in my corner.
I’m pretty sure baseball is his specialty.
There's a pretty well respected sports bettor Goldenbears in the SE forum. I'd ask for his advice if you are serious about it.

I can believe that the name stout originally came from "stout porter," but a specification was needed even back then, as they were noticeably different from standard porters and they have definitely evolved into separate styles now.

I mean Guinness's full name is Guinness Extra Stout. If we go by the naming convention above, it could be an extra-extra porter. :eyeroll:

Guinness Extra^2 Porter would be the hipster way to write it.

What is a "1/2 player"?

Btw, did you end up deciding on and purchasing your acoustic upgrade?
Biggest wuz golf. then hoop and baseball. Those guys are super smart - I mean legit. Very creative, and they worked insanely hard. They made pilez but they earned that sht. So unless you were planning on doing something super creative and cutting edge I dont think you "missed the boat".

I am ackshually going to the Taylor road show tonight and sampling a few geetars. I really like the 314ce (300 series+ is made in usa#1) but Ima fish and may opt for sumpin even fancier even though it is completely unnecessary. What i am super duper excited about is the boss waza air headphones for quiet electric practice - saw a review that was absolutely bananas. Ima order them bad boyz this week

I feel like I should post this in OOT's "things that shouldn't piss you off, but do" thread. Squared means something times itself, not something plus itself or something times two.

meh, i read it differently than you did, since there are not mathematical terms, i assumed a multiplication of extra because it seems more fun to multiply than to add.

also, when 2 variables are next to each other, multiplication is implied, hence "xy" in algebra (and higher) is assumed to be "x multiplied by y". 'extra' is not quantified, so i read it as a variable.

The Extra operator is applied twice: extra extra porter = extra(extra(porter)) or extra^2 porter.

Coming up next: Dirac notation and <porter| extra† extra |porter>

Lol. Always pros and cons with this. Obviously the type of guy you want to sit at the table with... if you can stomach the 12 hands per hour, lol.

Still remember back in my 2/4 Limit days where I switched tables to play with the unknown clueless drunk idiot (yes, bumhunting at the ~unbeatable 2/4 Limit game, lol @ me). After about an hour of ~10 hands I'm fairly certain I couldn't take it any more and table changed again for sanity purposes.

Now I'm extra confused because Guiness makes an G. Extra-Stout separate from it's Draught. Same principle, I never bought another draught after having the E.S., which apparently = extra*extra^*porter.

Only have the one Beck song on my iPod, although I find I'm more a fan of that stuff above than his more weirdo stuff.

Spoiler:

No, not Loser. Never really liked that song when it came out, although when I hear it nowadays (such as I did on the radio into work the other day) I don't dislike it as much but that's probably just the nostalgia.

Yeah, JOTS, I just assumed you used the carat to represent superscripting the 2, to make it "extra squared." People do that crap all the time when they actual mean 2x. Sorry to bust out my annoyance at that when that wasn't what you meant.

AFAIK, Guiness Draught and Extra Stout are the same beer, it's just that Draught is carbonated with nitrogen instead of CO2. Not sure about this, but that's what I've heard. The "Draught" bottles and cans have little nitrogen packs in them to give it the same creaminess that you get from a nitrogen tap.

Went and mailed a letter cuz I'm from the 1950s apparently. And like I always do, after closing the mailbox shovel forward, I always open it back up again, just to make sure the letter dropped. I've done this 1 million times, and not once has the letter not dropped, but I do the safety check every time anyways. Today the letter was still there. And still on the second attempt. And still on the third attempt even though I moved it around a little. Finally disappeared on the fourth attempt.
