I wanted to check in with my feelings about pokerz so i figured id take a peek at some casino poker whilest she got her fitness on. I played (lasted) 3.5 hrs.

Thoughts:

I was rusty as hell obv and made a bunch of mistakes which i expeted.
There were no skilled players at my game and the size and number of mistakes that all of my opponents made were staggering.
The general public still has no clue how to play NLH.
I still do not like being in the casino environment and find it to be a generally sad scene and both a time and $ sink for most. My view that the proliferation of casino gamblin aint cool on multiple levels is as strong as ever
I have no intentions of playing live poker again any time soon. However, I will if need be.
I do not see live NLH being in any danger of not being profitible for the moderately skilled player.

Back from a week of medieval headkicking. I'm getting really old for this ish. Three days of fighting in a row is clearly my limit these days, and I would have been better off sticking to two. But this event is the premier one for pick-up fighting, where you get sets of 1V1 with a variety of folks from all over, so I pushed it. Blew a lot of rust off myself, but also took a lot of ibuprofen and slathered several muscle groups in Rock Sauce.

Obviously, you've spent far more time in that environment than I. But I get almost a visceral reaction when I walk into a casino now. I don't know if it's because historically, I've usually booked losses or what. Didn't happen when I was younger, despite not being able to afford to lose.

Last weekend, when I walked in, I damn near almost turned around. I wanted to call mrs turtle and tell her to cancel Vegas next month. It dissipated once I got to the poker room and was away from the slots and table game sounds. But yeah, casinos now give me "the ick." Not to mention people are gross and can't keep their germs to themselves.

For whatever reason, I'm drawn to trying to become a winning cash player. So I persevere. Online doesn't feel legit anymore, and many of the home games around here have started raking their games.

Really only remember Ship of Fools, but it was a nice little song. Always thought it was not as deep as the singer seemed to think it was, but it was fine.

InstantPot corned beef came out pretty damn well. 8 day brine and 90 minutes in the pressure cooker.

I played pokerz for the first time in 2024. Played so-so but booked a 2.5 BI win (biggest in a long, long time).

That was helped by winning an Omaha bomb pot. I have no idea what I am doing in those but flopped the nuts with the nut redraw on one board (and drilled the nut redraw on the river) and flopped 2 pair plus various backdoors on the other. Basically, I flopped strong enough even I couldn't **** it up, which was nice.

Always loved the chorus but the rest of it didn't do it for me, so never made the iPod.

Thanks to my injury, poker is like legit the only hobby I can do right now, so I'm actually playing more than I ever have... at least in terms of sessions (now doubled to twice a week) but pretty much the same in terms of hours (where I'm curious if this will have a positive affect on my winrate thanks to shorter sessions likely being beneficial to my shortstacking method).

Yeah, more-or-less ~3.5 hour sessions (twice a week) as I find I can't sit in one place for as long as I used to right now. Running at 1.5 bbs/hr over my historical winrate this year so far (in spite of increased tax on game), but super lol sample size.

hello, new to this thread. seems like a civil and friendly place.
for a side hustle here in Dakota I deal for weekend tournaments. this week is a bigger event at a podunk Indian casino. 5 tourneys in 4 days, probably dealing 30+ hours. I'd like to get several cash sessions of play in too.

of course we are getting hit with an early spring snowstorm. that's gonna make the 2+ hour drive suck. winter has been so mild; the only time it storms is when I have to drive somewhere 1+ hour away

Welcome to the thread, Langdon. Drive carefully. I hope you're staying on site for the weekend, not commuting.

That's good to hear. As my father-in-law in Wisconsin says of winter driving, keep the shiny side up.

OK, wintery.

In Arabic, the word for winter is shitta', and just like in English, you add an "ee" sound onto a noun to turn it into an adjective. Thus winter-like weather when it is not technically winter is "shittee." Always seemed appropriate.
