I won 1060bb in an online private game last night. 100bb buy in. Actually messed up a few hands and cost myself some value too.

Guessing it was like playing poker in 2005. Zero equity 2 and 3x pot bluffs, 40bb pre flop 4 bets being called by raggedy hands. Overshoves being called by 1 paid bad kicker etc

Only 1-2 but I’m guessing the eco system won’t survive for long

Finished the cursed project. To add a kicker to it, I lost control during the final polish and broke the string of pearls. Pearls everywhere and a ****load of extra work when I was already tired and frustrated. Sigh.

It came out nice though.

My biggest regerts as a perfesionnal gambler is leaving $ on the table.

I left a small fortune on the blackjack felts, I also left piles on the on line felts. I should have learned my lesson with blackjack. Sadly i didnt and repeated the same mistake. Luckily on my last project i did not dick around and blasted with a howitzer

Dont b lazy. If you have extra time (i know you are a busy family man) I would pound those games hard

Very disappointing when you end up making a messy pearl necklace.

Yes, I agree. I will be playing this game every time I’m invited. Fortunately it’s an evening thing and my wife is generally in bed by 8 these days so I am 3-4 hours to grind.

I don’t think the biggest donator will be around for long and the other two generous guys may not be either

I'm really trying to see the beagles in there now. It's a Korean take on a bat. Apparently a good luck symbol in Chinese and Korean culture.

I see a side view of a stoic dog on the right and a face on view of a startled, slightly goofy dog on the left. In between them is a fish.

Resident health nuts aka squid and Feely

I’m as far as I’ve ever been

For the last 33 days outside of 2 cheat days, I’ve more or less eaten 1,400 calories per day

Standard meals look like this:

Breakfast option 1
2 eggs
1/4 cup brown rice
Either sautéed kale (2 cups) or 6-8 oz steamed broccoli or baked Brussels sprouts

Option 2
Same but swap eggs for grilled chicken breast 4 oz

Lunch and dinner are basically the same as the chicken option. Sometimes brown rice is swapped for quinoa or I’ll skip the grain and add 1/4-1/2 avocado for a little fat

Barely snacking but when I do it’s usually 1-2 rice cakes or 3-4pm carrot sticks or 20-30 snap peas

Exercise I’m up to running 3-4x per week for 20-40 min per

I lost 5 pounds week one and haven’t dropped anything since

I know weight lifting would be better than running but I’m probably not going to get to the gym with crazy work hours plus kids

My 2 cheat days weren’t particularly bad as 2/3 meals on both days were the same as above and the 3rd was having 6 oz of steak for dinner instead and the other was 3 ribs with 6 oz grilled chicken. I ate around 2k calories on those days.

I’ve been very diligent tracking and I haven’t missed tracking stuff as I type it into the app before starting to eat each time to hold myself accountable. I am weighing all of the portions on a food scale or measuring cups for the other stuff.

MSPaint required. I can see the fish (looks like a bumble bee to me, but I can see fish) in the body of the bat, but how its wings, as stylized as they are, make a pair of dogs, I have no idea.

Oh also to add. I’m not drinking anything except water and black coffee or tea. I haven’t had a drop of booze or soda.

super frustrating when you feel that you're doing everything right and not getting the results. I know that if I'm trying to cut weight and I don't lose anything for 5/6 days I get really frustrated

overall thought is that it looks/sounds like you're doing the right things and that if you persist and are patient, the results will come.

we do all have different bodies though and they respond differently and at different speeds. if you think about Squid, you and I....Squid clearly has the sprinter's build, I'm the longer sprints build and you're the middle and longer distance guy. And we will all add muscle, strength, speed, conditioning etc etc in a different way based off our physiology. And there are people who just cannot lose weight or really really struggle to do it. And that's a really difficult thing for the bros on insta who just spout 'calories in, calories out' to ever accept. Meanwhile they're full of testosterone still at 26 yrs old and 6ft 2 and were born with a 6 pack. So of course it's ****ing easy bro - just put your hat on backwards and do some lat raises Chad.

My wife was a train every day, eat basically nothing bad and very few calories ever person and never ever lost more than a few lbs. She discovered a hormone based weight loss protocol that changed everything for her. And she now consults to a very few women who are also mega hard gainers and have been dieting for decades. Her average client loses 15lbs in 3 weeks and 26lbs in 6 weeks and it's literally changed their entire lives.

I'm not suggesting you do it because you probably don't need to, but more using the story to show that you can do everything 'right' and it doesn't have the same impact on you that it does on others.

I've got decent results from both paleo and keto. And paleo in particular I think is a pretty good way to eat for the long term. But I suspect both are mostly useful mainly as a means of helping people consume fewer calories rather than the bro science part of it all.

Similarly (and this probably becomes my recommendation), I get good results from intermittent fasting and I used that recently, in conjunction with way fewer carbs and way less alcohol, to drop 14lbs in 7 weeks. And I'm back on it again now as I try to cut down even more. Now again, I reckon in many ways IF is bro for 'skip breakfast' and may just be a way to get fewer calories in per day, but if it works and you feel good doing it then why not? And it's honestly not too difficult once you get a few days into it.

My daily construct is

Morning - 45 min walk

black coffee and chew gum only

12/12.30 high protein meal. generally chicken or ground beef or eggs with salad/apples and nuts

2.30/3 snack of an apple, 7/8 nuts and either some deli turkey or a few slices of cheese

5 gym

6.30-7.30. main meal that will be high in protein, lots of vegetables but often have some rice too.

8 ish something sweet at night, eg low fat ice cream, a finger of kit kat etc.

I find I can fast 4-5 times per week. It doesn't compromise my lifting days but it can compromise my rowing days. So if I have a hard row to do that day, I always have breakfast and I also replenish with rice that night.

in summary. stay at it and I'm sure you'll see results soon enough, but there's nothing wrong with trying a few different things as well to see how your body responds

Within the right circle, I see a side view of a dogs head. Within the left circle, I see a face-on view of a dogs head, almost looking out from behind the bead. I can see one eye, and it's wide open.

Thanks Feely- maybe I’ll try to mix in some fasting and see what happens. I appreciate the time you took on your response.

I definitely was not expecting to drop the pounds like I could in my twenties, but expected a minimum of 1 pound per week would come off based on my caloric intake alone.

OK, I thought the right circle was one dog, but I still can't make myself see one on the left. I clearly fail the puzzle pic.

It's a pound a week on average over long term if you're deficit 3500 kcal. I'm talking months and months.

I found keto over about 6 months to be very effective for weight loss and, probably more impactfully, very instrumental for energy levels during intermittent (and longer) fasts. The water loss alone in the first 10 days of keto is very encouraging although obviously not long term. For me, keto wasn't long term either since I have to work around my family's meals and my wife told me I smelled even worse than usual.

There's a concept in keto called the whoosh where one day you weigh and it's several pounds less. Work the program and you'll get there. But I'm not sure how you can go without drinking Mountain Dew Code Red?

If you're also building muscle mass... I've been known to gain weight in the first couple of weeks of hard fitness work after an injury or some such.

here's a fitness update for me: rolling into my summer bike and golf season I was firing up my bike commute in May. From my kids school to my office is 7 miles which isnt a lot but 14 mi per day is decent volume and it fits into my schedule. On the third bike commute, about a mile from my car, on my rigid frame gravel bike, I hit a piece of road debris and went over the bars.

Immediately after hitting the ground I heard my front tire hissing from a pinch flat. I didn't lose consciousness but I took a scrape on the side of my helmet, and cracked the foam. I gathered myself up, and collected my sunglasses and my garmin sportwatch and other items I dropped in the crash, and quickly realized my arm was broken.

I wheeled my bike back towards my car. Some handy Boulderites stopped me to ask if I needed help fixing a flat tire but i informed them I had all the tire gear I needed in my backpack but the injury was the real issue.

My HMO told me on the phone that I could get an "urgent" orthopedics appointment in three weeks. So I went to the hospital, where I was diagnosed with a comminuted (multiple) inter-articular (in the joint) displaced (out of position) distal radius fracture. Later according to my surgeon, I learned it was a "type C3" fracture, relatively severe as these things go.

Three days later I had surgery, and a plate installed.

Since then I've been working my hand therapy exercises, and have been back on the stationary bike for the past few weeks As of tomorrow my surgeon has cleared me to ride a real bike. Range of motion is severely limited, but getting better.

Overall 2/10, do not recommend.

This is what a smashed radius looks like from one angle

Xrays are pretty gnarly, dude. There's an upside only being a mile or so from the car. Glad you're on the mend and hopefully some fall golf is in the cards.

Also, nailed the drawing, btw
