Your criteria was less of a gas guzzler and fun to drive. They fit that and if you're still living in CA you'll probably need to drift towards EV eventually.

Elon is a POS for sure. All im saying is the cars are fun to drive bc instant toque. The "luxury" models are absurdly fast and fit a sabre budget.

Drove one of these for about three years, Would make a great commuter car. Like the T cars.... plenty of torque off the line. I admit, not everyone's cup-o-tea.

Whatever overvalued number Twitter may have cost is insignificant next to the overvalued price of TSLA.

Just curious. How many of you people who have been dogging on the Tesla cars have actually driven one?

My friend has let me drive both of his Teslas (2016 and 2019 models).

I was really blown away by the instant torque. I was also impressed with some of the other features.

With that said, I don't think his 2019 Model 3 was a luxury vehicle.

If you're comparing high end cars, you should compared XYZ gas car to a Model S Plaid.

I don't really understand how overvalued or underpriced Tesla stock has anything to do with Tesla cars being good or bad.

Do you guys all run a stock price analysis on a car company before you buy a car?

I don't remember a time when any of my friends did an analysis of VW stock before buying their Audis.

FWIW, Elon Musk seems to be a weird guy, but it just seems so weird that people here are just commenting on irrelevant stuff like Elon Musk this or Tesla stock price that.

Aren't the performance and features and price and other factors the things that you all consider when buying a new car?

Seems like you guys are nitpicking on stuff that are mostly irrelevant to whether a Tesla car purchase is actually good or bad.

You are drawing a correlation that wasn't made. The previous poster was mocking Elon for purchasing Twitter at an elevated price. I was simply pointing out that TSLA's price is far more outrageous. This is extremely relevant because in order for Elon to make a multi-billion dollar investment like this, he has to sell TSLA stock.

I've driven a model S and a model Y. not for me

I need to feel the gas destroying the o-zone layer as I accelerate through suburban residential neighborhoods.

I don't think 3 or Y can be considered luxury cars, despite the price. X and S are both 6 figure cars and can be considered luxury. Though I think the interior of the average $120k+ car will be far superior to that of either the S or X, but few will come close to being as fast.

Personally, I'd prefer the body of the Y with the specs of the X. It'd be annoying not being able to open my backseat doors in the garage.

I don't like electric vehicles. Electric vehicles are purchased by people who want a self-driving robot, not an automobile. I want to feel connected to the road, not insulated from it, hence my taste in cars is very specific. I like sporty cars with manual transmissions and distinctive exhaust notes. An electric vehicle will never excite me no matter how quick they make it.

Tesla is also known for their subpar build quality. At the price point they are charging the cars are simply not well built. Even if I had to get an EV I still wouldn't buy a Tesla.

Nearly every company makes EVs now, and Teslas are ugly (subjective) and poorly built (not subjective). They are well known for their inconsistent panel gaps, terrible paint quality, and low reliability in general.

EVs are also not my cup of tea regardless of how quickly they can accelerate from standstill. Doing launches would be the only thing remotely fun about them and it would get old quickly. There's a reason I never see electric vehicles driving in the canyons. They are appliances. People who actually enjoy driving tend to drive Miatas (if budget-limited) or Porsches.

I'll probably wait to get an EV until after I get a home solar setup. There seems to be a high risk of electric prices spiking in the near future, especially if a lot of people switch to EVs.

Plus, gas is only $2.989/gallon.

You don't see tesla's in the canyon because you can't catch them.

Build quality is legit and the paint is lol terrible. Mine was fine but my wife's wasn't, they fixed it ofc but annoying for the price to be sure.

Eta: Obviously there is no accounting for taste and if they're not for you they're not for you. But I assure you I sincerely enjoy driving and this is the most fun I've had in a car. I never use autopilot either.

I have a 6 speed Elantra gt. It’s fun to drive, but I needed a 4 door car that could hold car seats. Plus I got it for like 9k with only 50k miles

Lol please. I drive in the canyons roughly once a month and I've never seen a Tesla there. Tons of sports bikes, Miatas, S2000s, BMW M3s, Corvettes, and Porsche 911s. Teslas are very heavy and heavy things do not like the frequent braking and changing of directions required by twisty narrow roads.

Taste is obviously subjective, but I'm guessing you haven't driven stuff like mid-engine Ferraris or 911s if a Tesla is the most fun you've had driving a car.

For me, fun is dependent on many criteria:

1) straight-line speed
2) braking and cornering
3) engine and exhaust sound
4) driver involvement (good steering feel and manual transmission are mandatory for me)
5) seating position (I will never like SUVs for this reason)
6) exterior and interior styling

A fast Tesla would only be good at 1, and utterly fails at 3, 4, and 6.

If all I cared about was straight-line speed I could twin-turbo my R8 to smoke any Tesla (there are plenty of R8/Huracán builds with 1000+ HP) but that's not very important to me.

I can get behind all of these but #3. I just don't understand why that would be important, and why you couldn't just play it on a sound system if it were.

I've driven a 911 but never a Ferrari. Porsches don't appeal to me for whatever reason. I wouldn't mind a ferrari, I'll fully admit.

Teslas is like Apple products: way overpriced and way overhyped. It appeals to the big masses that want one because a friend or their neighbour have one. I mean come on.

Even if you insist on a fully electric car there is better options out there. Audi E-Tron for example, especially the coupe version.

A car with 220 mi range and 6+ second 0-60 is a terrible example of a better option
