Is there a vacation in play? I've always wanted to see New Brunswick.

I did the lazy Halloween costume adding a toy whip to my usual outfit. The 20 somethings asked me if I had found the Crystal Skull

Is that the latest one? I actually have no idea.

My kid just got into the union for computer artists in the movie biz. She worked on 2 different projects prior to trying to gain admission (tick tick boom and time travellers wife). The application/admission process is absolutely brutal. Multiple interviews, portfolio presentations and defenses, project simulations, interview with the board, and finally the waiting period. Her unions application process is every 2 years so this was a very big deal for her to get in with so little time under her belt.

Boom!

Presumably gives her access to far more opportunities?

Incredible that people still want to spend the time typing out advice for 6bet me in his thread.

….he hasn’t listened to or acted on the last 15000 pieces of advice but I’ll just spend my time writing out 4 paragraphs of banal and obvious thoughts and he might just listen to me

Grats to Squidspawn. I have some friends in that business, though they didn't have any such challenging entry requirements. They kind slid in when it was all new and they were the youngsters who understood computers, instead of relying on wet film and models on strings like the rest of the guys at ILM.

the union pay is nothing short of sick. She got her first gig through a former prof. who rec'd her. The crews tend to stay together from project to project as once a good team is in place it makes everything so much easier. So she got the invite to the second gig cuz of the first. But now she can pretty much write her own ticket wherever and whenever. She is taking the winter off and hanging with me in PC and getting back to her mountain roots. I am now hopeful she can get off the east coast and get back to the western US where everything is a whole lot more kewl.

Basically groundhog day.

Still married
Still living in mom's basement
Deposited online, ran it up, moved up way too fast, lost it all
Made money live, donked it off in the pits, got it back playing baccarat
Started school, got bored after 5 weeks to play chess online FT. failed half his courses
Bought his old lady a $500 phone.
Has $2.5K bankroll

One of his idiot "friends" started a gofundme so he could have a roll, and nobody wants any part of it.

Dude needs to be in GA. Seriously.

Thanks. That just saved me a bunch of time and aggravation.

Still fiddy/fiddy on whether I think the 6betme thread is a lark (with 1% chance it's a Feely alt).

Congratulations to the paralarvae, squid! That sounds awesome, great opportunity for her.

Should post in the movies thread? I bet people there would be excited to hear.

Congrats to your daughter, Squid. Quite an accomplishment.

My feeling on the 6bet me story is much like Mark Twain's comment on "The Adventures of Huck Finn." It is mostly the truth with a few stretches in it. Not buying he ran his bankroll up to AUS$10k.

Thanks for all the kind words guys, I am beyond proud. She got seriously injured skiing when she was 15 and it took until her sophmore year in college where to where she seemed fully recovered. There were several years in there where we were really worried, so this result is kind of like a hallmark movie of the week ending for us.

the worry you feel as a parent when your child is going through major issues is unlikely any other, so I'm really glad for you and her mumma that she's survived and prospered after a load of adversity and hope the journey out from that strengthens her will and resolve.

my middle child has had a horrific 18 months one way or another and the impact it's had on my wife has been remarkable....which then means it's then had a huge impact on me/my marriage and the family. I think my daughter is beginning to come out the other side of it, albeit there are continuing issues, but whether my wife's mindset can recover and whether the psychological damage lingers and becomes an ongoing burden for my girl remain to be seen

I have two friends who got their movie union thing for working a camera a few years ago (something like that, obviously I'm not too knowledgeable on this), and it completely changed their career. I believe it took them over a decade of pretty low pay and poor treatment. If all of the movie industry unions are that way, then Squiddaughter really hit a major milestone.

Congrats, and please drop what she's working on in the chat sometime, I'd love to know about it.

Set a PR at the gym. The Friday before Thanksgiving I returned to the squat rack. I expected pain when bending down to my shoe rack, but I stopped short; I had left my sneakers in the locker at the gym. I didn't get back to that branch until last night. They were still right there in the locker along my vintage glow in the dark NWO t-shirt

Congratulation to Squid 2.0.

Hopefully that union only breaks legs with CGI.
