This reminds me. The other day I was browsing Okcupid profiles and I come across a chick's profile which had a reference to some sort of firm.

I do a quick google search and lo and behold, this chick had been sued by her fiance who was a junior partner in a big shot for a big law firm.

Why was she sued, you ask? Apparently the couple was on the precipice of marriage and this chick asked for a fancy engagement ring. Dude was a junior law partner, but he was no Elon Musk, so he took out a loan for a 100k ring. But then, as these things tend to go from time to time, the relationship got acrimonious and the couple split up.

The breakup was so bad however that the chick refused to return the fancy engagement ring, so the dude decided to deploy his legal arsenal.

Needless to say, all of this is bewildering to me because as far as I am concerned spending $100k on an engagement ring and flushing the money down the toilet is the one and the same. Some women do tend to go crazy about that **** though.

Either way, I think the chick should have returned the ring. Seems like the right thing to do, no? The moral of the story I guess is to choose someone you can at least have a civil break up with.

Returning the ring is a legal requirement in most states. But I figure if she won't return it then you learned a lesson much cheaper than the one divorce would be teaching later on.

I will say that I would be happy to accept 10% of 3m per year for the next 15 years to not work again

**** you money:

So I guess it really depends on who you're telling to go **** themselves. Given my rather pleb tastes, I believe 3 mill a year would do the trick.

Awesome job to SPC again!

I think I read about that one. She's looking for someone who will let her play piano all of her life, and found one; just not up to her standards.

Apparently, the military was against the announced withdraw but overruled by the President. I think 1975 Saigon was the plan, but Biden didn't remember that we live in a world on internet time, so a couple of years are now a couple of weeks.

Damn, turtle on a posting rampage.

To be fair, it might have been believable if there were some consequences to the aforementioned action.

4 partner client just sold to PE for just shy of 200M. Two primary partners are 43 and 60 and had ~40% each.

Is that FU money?

I've had 2 other clients sell (for far less but still quite material) and have 3 or 4 other clients currently having tires kicked.

One is being offered 14M (2 partners 50/50) for a business that is probably worth 8-9 but the ego of one will prob sink the deal. I can see it coming

This is why you don’t propose on a day (or around) when gifts are normally exchanged, mostly Xmas, birthday, and Valentine’s Day, because I’ve read that courts can rule the opposite way on these days, contending that the ring is a gift, therefor the gift giver has no recourse for recouping the ring.

Obv the best place to propose is at the reception of a wedding of someone else, cause **** them for thinking it’s their day

The amount of money being thrown around over the last 6 months to SBE is more than I've seen in my career by a factor of 10x. A lot of cheap money that doesn't know where to go. It's insane

In Nevada at least, engagement rings are considered "conditional gifts", so if you get married they're a gift, no matter what happens after, & if you don't get married you have to give it back.

In the circles I operate in - yes

My requirement for FU money = amount to never work a day again, cover all basic needs, be able to provide a bit for family members, be able to go to nice restaurants on occasion and not even think about what the bill will be and spend (reasonably) on a few vacations a year without blinking an eye

Yeah, I told a former employer to **** off with considerably less than $75M in the bank.

Actually, a specific idiot in management, not the employer as a whole, but you know how that goes.
