House. Land just comes with it. Slight adjustments for abnormally large or small lots. Price/sf is generally a bit higher on houses that small, as some cost are relatively flat, instead of scaled by square footage. From 3Ksf and up, though, $100-125/sf was pretty standard.

We went large. 5Ksf house on a bit over half an acre.

No significant renovations this time. GG will be happy to hear that we will at least change the color of the cabinets in the kitchen, so technically we sill be keeping the kitchen remodel streak alive, but otherwise just some simple maintenance, carpet removal, etc..


Yup, that's teh era. Most mind-blowing (literally) thing I studied was the dueling culture among the self-styled "gentlemen" of the era. A lot of our early military officers shot each other.

Wife has always wanted to redo our kitchen cabinets. Then over time she thought maybe just repainting them and replacing the knobs. Then just last week she thought maybe they're completely fine as is and maybe just a good cleaning.

I've always been in the they-are-more-than-completely-fine-as-is camp, although was also willing to go with getting the reno's done if her heart was set on it. Glad that's where we're at now.
