It feels like we have the same 4 page discussion about music like 2x a year which eventually devolves in whether or not people think Radiohead is the most genius band ever
You guys would probably be shocked at how little moderately popular bands like Spoon clear. I have friends in Blue October, and either their wives work, the band member works a side job when they're not on tour, or both.
Touring is just super expensive, apparently. They make money doing it, but not huge amounts, and records are just basically advertising for the tours.

Right. This actually makes a lot of sense. Thanks for the reminder.
It is a ridiculously tough world to crack into and thrive in.
I do know that a lot of my favourite musicians work when they’re not making music, which would make it difficult to uhhh, make a lot of music.

actually recently was reading about how well tool's tour was doing and it listed all the other highest grossing bands of the year, there's a surprising amount of non-mainstream stuff like iron maiden at the top of the charts - seems like having those diehard fans pays off dividends - on average they do about 70ish shows a year and gross nearly 1 million per show - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bo...uls_World_Tour here 104 shows grossed 1
tell blue october to do more bar mitzvahs and weddings, i'll book them fo sho
i remember when they came up on a youtube suggested play and I was shocked to see how rough around the edges the band looks, doesn't fit the music at all
this is a decent song to have loaded up in winamp when it's time to close for the first time with a tinder honey

yes, winamp > itunes
lead singer 100% looks like the stereotypical dude who is going to shank someone on a tv show. does not fit that song at all.
is winamp still a thing?
agreed that it was better than any iteration of itunes.
SPC carried the stone 1,000 feet today. For reference my personal best is 600 feet. Granted this type of stuff is way outside of my wheel house but she is insanely good at this and it has been both fun as hell and inspiring to be a part of. I also happen to outweigh her by 45#
Once she gets 1,200 we will begin training to beat the middle weight rock record

Justin is pretty bipolar. And when he gets manic, he gets a new tattoo almost every time.
Their music is pretty bipolar too, from the slow dance songs like Sway and 18th Floor Balcony, to near metal, though the average for their stuff fits in the Adult Alternative bucket, like their hits Hate Me and Into the Ocean. Here's their newest single, which fits in that mold. 6 million views, you'd think they were making bank.
On the other hand, since rickroll already covered their mellow side, here's one of the hard ones:

Or you can be 17 and have a camera follow you around for 8 months and make a documentary that by most accounts cost less than a million to make and then...
Quote:
Apple has paid $25 million for the rights to a Billie Eilish documentary that will be shown on Apple TV+ and follows the 17-year-old singer-songwriter's life after the release of her debut album in March, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Who determines she is the next it thing. The longer I live, the more I think we are all just living in a sim.
Yeah, Steve Albini (who posts as electrical on 2+2, mostly in the 7-card stud forum) wrote an article back in the 90s about how little "major" musical acts who aren't superstars actually make. The article's a bit dated now, but the concepts still apply.
So many people look at the gross numbers only. Like I remember hearing someone say something like "$25 a ticket and there are about a thousand people here. That's 25 grand for five band members. $5k for a night's work, must be nice." Um, no.

His resume is ****ing legit. But I'm not sure anyone is more angry doing something I presume he loves
If you haven't read his AMA in BBV4L, def check it out. Seems like his biggest regret in life is that he helped Urge Overkill become a flash in the pan hit.

I’ll check it out. I used to interact with him some when I was playing mixed more.
I think he had a big thing with Pumpkins too but they may have buried the hatchet
IMO he hasn't done anything good since 2007 though. His first 3 albums was his prime.
His latest Jesus album is really just meh. Great musical production, but just falls flat.
