Why not poker?
Thank you, I appreciate it.

Probably eventually, but it's good to get the foot in the labor force, it's very accommodating to poker, I'm graduating from an elite university and it's kinda wasting the whole thing if I just play poker full time, probably wouldn't enjoy poker as much if it was my end all be all, I'll be making great money when you combine the two, I'm actually super interested in economic research, and the list goes on

Be well groomed. That being said, you have a phone interview and that is where your focus should lie.
It would probably look like pubes if I didn't oil it every day. I suppose I could have the barber make it look professional.

Somewhere between Jerry Sandusky, Bill Cosby, and a Catholic priest.

We'd be good friends irl., I feel it . I did that whole interview dance for internships as a sophomore (Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan etc.) and it was extremely stressful. I got the impression from the companies I interviewed with that they care way more about if you're a good fit/best candidate for them than vice versa.

While the starting salaries were fantastic for the subsequent entry level jobs (six figures+ w/bonuses with great upward mobility) Wall Street just seemed like such a rat race from everyone I talked to. I'm not sure if it's the same in economic research.

Also, while I may be delusional, I don't envision it being particularly difficult to make similar amounts of money ($150k-$500/yr) in poker. It's not a waste imo since the degree still gives you leverage. I got hooked up with a sweet scholarship though.

Either way mature decision man. You're gonna kill it.

apart from the delusion, I particularly enjoy the stated '$150-$500k/yr' range, as if that's a standard range for any remuneration/role/job function type anywhere

I was referring to making $150k starting out and then gradually progressing to 100/200 where $500k is reasonable.

Poker has variance you know, 150k if you're running like garbage is a realistic floor if you're exploiting your opponents. And if you are running good 500k is pretty reasonable imo.

If your facial hair is covering up a tattoo, I would suggest keeping it, neck beard and all.

and it was because you were being serious that we were laughing.

What are you talking about? I moved out at 17. I got a scholarship for school and am done in 3 years with a minor. I funded my initial buyin and have run it straight up from there. It amazes me how adults make blatant assumptions about people they don't know. "He must be a spoiled, entitled, rich kid to say something like that."

Maybe I have as much as confidence in my abilities as I do because I've been one of the best chess players in the U.S. (for my age) since I was 8? Or because I became a national chess master in my early teens? Or because I work harder than anyone I know? Or because of several other factors you're completely oblivious to?

Live poker is a joke. I know multiple people, personally, who play it at the highest level and they have told me that becoming a chess master is significantly harder than beating the highest stakes at live poker.

I could care less about your encouragement, especially as I was talking to 76o, but there's no need to quote me for the sole purpose of being an a**hole. At least offer some constructive criticism- I'd be happy to hear your thoughts in that case.

It's not a competition, and I don't feel as if I have anything to prove to anyone. I was just stating my beliefs. And I'm gonna go for it.

Can you please be specific as to How you feel one would make 150k/year playing poker?

I don't doubt your talent.

But your statement does come across as a bit naive.

Having the skill to crush the high stakes games aside;

You're not only assuming you will have access to these high stakes games, but that they will run often enough that you will be able to make that amount of money in them per year.

The reason people are laughing is because you are making claims of fantastical results and saying it will be easy to boot.

It's like Uncle Rico saying he could chuck this football over them mountains.

Unless you can get connections and play in some of the JRB type games you're dreaming if you think you're gonna make 300k grinding 10/20 at the Bellagio or Commerce.
