His original target market was those who had buried themselves in debt with repeated poor financial decisions. And for those people his simplistic, slogan based strategy is about as optimal as they can handle. Even his envelope strategy is fine for those who have struggled sticking to budgets as it is a decent reinforcement technique.

But shew, the cultists types who get under his spell are something else. I have some cousins (who I have managed to avoid most of my adult life) who bought into the DR-lifestyle. I still remember once saying I was going to put a purchase on my credit card and the look my cousin and her husband gave as one of abject horror. They then informed me that they *never* use a credit card and that those who do are by default poor stewards of their money. I was like...but those credit card rewards tho!

Considering they have been gone since 2004 and you never noticed, I somehow think you will survive.
And yes the chimichanga was fire.

Yeah I pay everything I can with credit cards. Those points add up quick and are a nice little perk. I use it to subsidize my travel expenses.

Epic mid week pow day today here in the beehive state. Got to the hill plenty early and got furst trax on multiple rips. Went to ski some big boy lines and SPC's early season work has paid off. No pix but she sent and stuck a nice 5'+ cliff. Needless to say both our stoke meters went all the way to 11. We are set up in a beautiful weather pattern and should be skiin teh pow and shreddin the gnar erry day for the next week or so.

Farha - git yer ass north for some mid week fun!!

Someone got my CC# the other day and tried to charge $1443.43 in groceries at a Walmart Neighborhood Market the other day. Those places only have groceries, so how they managed to spend that much is a mystery.

Anyway, Chase closed my account, ldo, and now I have to figure out how to use my debit card if I need to buy anything before the replacement arrives. As above, I've been using the CC exclusively for years and just autopay the whole amount monthly. I'm not a bonus whore, but even just a simple one card that's 1.5% back on everything is a nice chunk of change every year.

You don't have a second credit card? I used to do Amex purely for the airmiles but always had a MC for places that didn't take it. Now I always use MC cuz cashback >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> airmiles but still have the Amex just in the case.

Still think it's more optimal to run up a credit card bill, never pay it off, pay extra in taxes 7 yrs later when they are charge it off and then buy everything in cash because lol poker.

So he's the GG of financial advice. Surprised to hear that GG has credit cards, especially an Amex, but I guess they no longer have their annual fees. I can't imagine myself ever getting a credit card. Having to pay the few bills I have is already too much work for me.

You do that when you're close to retirement. Build up credit until you have a line of a few mil. Free roll some online sports bets and cash advance the rest. Move to Vietnam. Profit.

No. The debit card is my "just in case." I used to have two CCs, but when one of them decided to start charging an annual fee, I canceled it. My plan C is to raid my poker roll for cash, if I can find it. <insert Rounders scene of Mike looking for his book full of money here>

As a current less-poor idiot I can tell you Ramsey's advice was very useful to me when I was trying to get my life together financially like 6 years ago when I knew stone zero about money management.

Paying credit card fees (or interest) is for credit card fish.

I disagree with the 'dumbest 1% ' invective because there are many people of average intelligence who claim to have used his system. One criticism I do have is that his advice works only for worker bees who dream of becoming a pointy haired boss. you can pay off all that $80k debt if you just work three jobs and don't enter a restaurant or buy presents for the next three years. That works for the most driven people and is useless for millions of average people who are never actually going to do that.

It's like the annual storm of weight loss advice written by and for athletes just run 10 miles a day on 800 calories -> .jpg of 20 year old .

I find one late payment fee cancels out 10 years of points that can't actually be redeemed anyway/

In my mind if you borrowed and spent $10,000, repaid 1k, went broke and settled for $500, you actually made a profit of $8,500 minus a little tax. And I would never have thought of this without Dave Ramsey.

If your card only pays you $3/yr in rewards idk what to tell you, maybe find a better card. Also don't be late obv.

It's pronounce caw-noon, not queue-anoon. It means "law" in Arabic and is also the name of a musical instrument, not sure which he's referencing. I doubt the folks of Chelsea, England are getting confused much. I don't think that silly conspiracy theory is very big over there.

Other Chelsea? Mass, Michigan, Alabama? In any of these cases, yeah, I'd prolly change the name, or at least the spelling.

Kahnoon, perhaps.

Pretty sure 11t said a while back that Ramsey is "good advice for people bad with money"

Think that nails it on the head. I'm not savvy at all and it took me a while before realizing that your money should be working for you in some way.
