Think I'm doing my anniversary in April in Colorado, any suggestions? Spring skiing in Breckinridge is my initial thought.

The prevailing gift exchange expectation is nuts. Once I realized that tons of people feel the same way I stopped with the whole charade and would just say straight up to anyone I used to exchange with "we don't need to exchange gifts anymore right?". Almost everyone is relieved.

you may want to do some research 1st.

The pandemic has altered skiing quite a bit. Breck just cancelled a bunch of pass holder reservations

granted its early season with not much snow but they are changing capacity restrictions.

I cant remember the specifics of brecks lease but I know a lot of resorts must close by mid apr.

I don't shop for any adults except for my nieces and nephews who are just starting out. My siblings and I also do something every year for my mom as a group gift. Sometimes a charitable donation and other times something we think she needs but doesn't realize it (aging relatives who still insist on being dependent can be easy to buy for sometimes).

I do give a small gift to a neighbor who watches my place when I am gone but that's just a gift card and some candy/liquor. My secretary gets a gift card and candy.

We usually have a tree, though since we visit my in-laws most years, sometimes we don't get around to putting up a tree at home. No exterior decorations.

Obv not visiting in-laws this year, so tree is up. And yes, it's a real tree. I hate fake trees, and I hate trees that are pruned into a cone shape. I want a tree that looks like a tree, smells like a tree, and gets sap all over my hands while I'm putting it up.

Real trees are overrated IMO and IME.

Messy, don’t last very long and way more cost over the long run.

Our tree goes up the weekend nearest to Dec 1 and goes down on Jan 5 and if we did this with a real tree, it would be looking almost dead by Christmas

In Colorado it’s easy to get a permit to harvest a tree from the national forest. Our natural tree is wonderful, and we murdered it with our own hands like real Americans.
