Hi,

This is not my hand.
I don't like the way it played out, but I really struggle to understand the correct action.

Game 0.20/0.20 NLH 20€ buy-in. Very loose table.
Hero (somewhat tighter than the average at the table, still too loose) 55 UTG+2, stack 20 €
straddle to 40 ct

preflop
UTG 2.40€
hero 6.40€ (wrong on so many levels, cuz it puts us in the situation on the flop in which we find ourselves)
CO call (most ABC player at the table)
UTG fold

flop 962 rainbow

shove to protect ?
or check because a shove makes our opponent play perfectly ?

I guess shove. This 3b is gonna put us in a bad spot at low spr.

Flop likely missed everybody. SPR looks to be just under 1. Shove is going to be the best play most of the time. It will be super erratic and most of the profit will come from villain folding 2 over cards on the flop. Villain's flat call of a 3 bet preflop should be a good portion of AK/AQ and there is some chance we get a higher middle pair to fold.
If hero knows that villain's range is mostly higher pairs then check/fold could be better.

This is one of those "what is the best play after a train wreck" situations. The best play was not to get into the train wreck at all. The straddle makes effective stacks too small to play this at all.

I totally agree, but I still wondered for other situations if this overextended bottom range should be part of the check-call strategy to balance the strategy, and there are will be almost no bad calls or folds. To be honest. Someone courageous enough to call with 88 to begin with should not hesitate one second to call of on that flop imho. UNLESS hero already balances 2 value bets 1 bluf, in which case I don't ever see 55 shoving as a bluff. I just got short circuited as you suggest by the situation that should never have been a situation to begin with.
