I have been studying a lot of run it once videos, and I'm just curious do you guys think it's almost a waste of my time since I don't play online and don't really plan on it in the near future. Am I full time 2/5,5/10 grinder. Been watching sauce123 and it seems this stuff is just way too advanced for live play.

I wonder the same thing. I've always thought about it as the more I know the more situations I'll be aware of to take advantage of.

I think the two mediums of playing are so different they're almost like two different games. In online play the volume of hands that players can play means that playing a GTO style and balance are prioritised. In live play ive found that often being balanced is superseded by knowing good spots which from a theory point of view are exploitative but in practice will be +EV. That's not to say that the good live players are bad, but if they were to play their game online without adapting, i honestly believe they would get crushed by nitty regs at 10nl.

I don't think that it's "too advanced", it's more like it's different skills for a different game. Live is a social game entailing people skills while Online is an analytical game.

I think people watch/listen/read too much study material rather than too little.

Most people want a wide range a knowledge. But their knowledge is an inch deep on most subjects. They know the definition, they can do it, but they don't know when and why to do it. It takes practice and time to learn the when and why to finally make it a habit.

My suggestion to people when they ask and they are beyond the basic noob stage is to come up with a list of leaks they have. Take the one that is costing you the most amount of money. Then research on that topic. Spend more time on learning the conditions necessary for the new technique to work. Then take at least 1 month at least putting that in your game before you move on to something else.

You will get more success that way than trying to implement 10 new concepts you were introduced to in a video and trying to put those in your game. I'll also note that as the concepts become more advanced, you need to have the core concepts down in your game. A concept that is "too advanced" can be correct if you can't see where they apply.

In terms of watching online training videos and what naught, it's my belief that we shouldn't be watching these videos for specific "things" to start doing in our games. i.e. you watch a video where they are talking about 3-betting light and now you say, "okay, I can't wait to start 3-betting light". No. imo that is the wrong approach.

Instead, we should be watching these videos more in the sense of "conceptual understanding" and core concepts and trying to understand the WHYs. So in the case of 3-betting light, we should understand that that is a counter and adjustment to a villain who raises light...

So when watching videos, don't watch it in the sense of making a checklist of cool things to try out next time you play live, that is the wrong approach. The right approach imo is to watch and focus on concept and theory and understanding. Once you truly internalize the concepts, then over time you will naturally see when, where, and how to incorporate them into your game.

Also agree with Venice we want to be focusing on one leak at a time...

Speaking as a old guy with a lifetime of playing live, and then did great on Paradise Poker for years until BF...

Not much translates from on-line to live.

Study the books, listen to the posters (and evaluate for your own style of play) on hand histories here, and play live.

More efficient and effective use of our time IMO.
