Pre-flop raise size (general strategy) Pre-flop raise size (general strategy)

I'm sure this has been asked before but I couldn't find a thread on it specifically

Obviuosly, it is typically considered bad to raise one amount with premium hands, and a different amount with speculative hands

My general strategy has been to find a raise that would on average get 1-2 callers and use that same amount (regardless of position or limpers) most of the session or until I'm getting too few callers or too many and then adjust up or down accordingly.

I've been reading a bunch about people who raise 3 or 4 BB + 1 BB/limper. I'm curious to hear people's thought process behind this strategy, particularly relative to the strategy of using one pre-flop raise amount every time. I'm assuming it sufficiently limits raise size tells, but doesn't it potentially unnecessarily bloat a pot pre-flop, especially when you get a chain of limpers calling a large pre-flop bet?

Yup. It's here among other places. Try searching "pre-flop sizing," and "raise sizing" in the thread titles for more if that one's not enough for you on the subject.

As for why "one raise size always, regardless of hand, position, stack sizes, number of limpers etc., to avoid sizing tells," I am fond of Ed Miller, et al's response.
