Is it possible to move up stakes playing 20 hours a month? Is it possible to move up stakes playing 20 hours a month?

I play maybe 3-4 sessions a month and the max buy-in would be $500 at 2/5 here. I wanted to take a stab at 5 max buy-ins because if I lost that I figured I could always drop back down to 1/2 again and have plenty of bankroll for that.

I have changed my game recently and have a new outlook on value betting that has allowed for bigger wins recently. But I play so few hours, I don't always get to exercise my new theories/practices to see if I can be discipline enough to do it all the time the right situations come up. I guess that's what worries me most about playing so little. I know what my plan is on every hand, but can I execute every time? We'll see I guess.

Wow, so your average session length is only a little over an 1 hour? We're in the same boat (I only play ~20-25 hours a month but I don't sit for less than 5 hours a session, good job & pay so poker is just entertainment, etc).

Anyhoo, what venice said above, especially if your bankroll is easily replenishable. Maybe when you go just check out the 2/5 table and see who's on the table; if it is a bunch of solid players, play your 1/2 game, otherwise if it is a bunch of morons maybe take a stab.

Just remember why you play. My guess is fun hobby >>> extra money, if you're honest with yourself.

My mistake, I meant 3-4 sessions a month. I do play for fun/competition, but I think I play seriously enough to want to make the extra money. IDK maybe I should just play 1/2. Sounds so fatalistic. Moving up sounds so much more exciting.

I had the same thoughts when I was playing limit. I thought I would just play forever at the 2/4 table (where I was barely outrunning the rake, but damn I was having fun) and the big huge 4/8 kill table was just a pipe dream. Then I eventually started taking some shots at the big game (oh, BTW, I highly recommend winning a 31.5K BBJ to aid in your shot taking abilities) and ended up destroying that game (it was basically the same idiots just with more money) and having just as much fun. Although I'd imagine it wouldn't be as fun if I lost money, funny how this game works sometimes.

Since it sounds like finances aren't an issue, there's nothing wrong with taking a shot or two, and moving back down if you run bad / confidence shaken / not having fun. 1/2 will always be there for you.
