He is suggesting you pick an open size and go with it. There’s no logical purpose to randomizing your open.
I suggest you just open to 15, rather than random amounts from 12-18. Opening to oddball amounts just makes it harder for the dealer when they have to make change. Nobody wants to wait on change when you open to 16 and 4 players call with red chips.
