Old Men who Love to Slow Play/CR Old Men who Love to Slow Play/CR

This was a hand I observed while playing in Las Vegas. 1/2 NL. Bet sizes are approximate. Younger player raises to $10 PF from EP. I fold, maybe one cold-caller, and older man (AARP++) calls from BB. Flop is AA3. Old man checks, preflop raiser bets $15, cold-caller mucks, old man calls. Turn is Ten. Old man checks, PFR bets $30, old man calls. River is Nine, old man checks, PFR bets only $25, old man insta-shoves for a Benjamin and stack of blueberries, ~$118. PFR goes into tank for several minutes. It's pretty clear that he has trip Aces, good kicker. At one point he shows the old man the Ace of Spades from his hand, but the geezer is like a statue, albeit with what looked to me as a smirk on his face.

I didn't say a word, of course, but I was about 95% certain to me the old man had a full house, with the most likely holding being AT, for the stone-cold nuts. If ever there was a b/f situation, this was it. In my 20+ years playing poker (almost all limit) I have observed that older men (with their "members only" jacket or "I Love Golf" caps) just love to slow play/check raise the river. It''s like Viagara to them. They'll even sacrifice some EV, just so they can play it that way. I tried to telepathically cummunicate to PFR to muck, but after ~5 minutes, he calls and just as sure as the sun will rise, Mr. AARP shows him the ATo, for the 3-out suck-out ott. So just a little Caveat emptor if one of you younguns find yourself in a similar situation one day.

General rule: old guys always have it when they raise.

You can still valuebet pretty easily, as with most live villains, b/f is your friend.

I don't think bluffing was invented yet when the AARP++ started playing.
