i'm sure you are being derogatory with that comment but w/e. its something i enjoy doing and i charge far less than my hourly expectation.
07-18-2008 , 03:56 PM
and i also believe that 94% of people who charge >200/hour aren't even close to worth it

Ok, how much do you charge then?

Do you think it's realistic for me to expect to charge 800/hr for coaching?
07-18-2008 , 04:00 PM
i charge 100/hour
07-18-2008 , 04:02 PM
i don't know what its realistic for you to charge, i dont' really see a huge correlation between what someone makes at poker and what they charge for coaching, seeing as its pretty common to be a great player and a lousy coach

How hard is it to coach? All you do is explain general concepts, watch a video of them playing, and tell them every leak you see and why it's a leak.

Some players don't tilt very much, grind really solidly and win at a decent rate, but play suboptimally in tons of spots and despite making money, aren't very good at poker. Obviously a coach like this wouldn't help anyone much, since no one can teach someone how to grind consistently yet mediocrely and never tilt.

Some players are intrinsically good at playing poker but have a hard time teaching. They make plays based on gut instincts that tend to be right. However they aren't solid on their equities and can't look at the game analytically. Obviously you wouldn't want this player as a coach.

On the other hand if someone is a great thinker but lacks the consistency or emotional stability of a big winner, well he could still be an excellent coach.

Ok whatever. I am the best FR player up to 5/10 nl, and I am almost positive I would be a good coach, better than 99% of the coaches in terms of teaching, since I know exactly why I make the plays I do, etc.

Is it realistic to charge 800/hr, and will you personally help me set up a website to promote my coaching?
07-18-2008 , 04:33 PM
i doubt anyone would pay you much more than 300, considering fr stakes are effectively capped at 5/10, and no one is going to pay >100bb of their stakes for an hour of coaching.

Also, i can think of several HSNL to nosebleed players that charge considerably less than 800/hour (krantz and ___scorpionWins come to mind), and I think it would be a bit naive to think you are worth more than them.

They're charging too little, and I really doubt there is infinite supply of Krantz/whoever else, meaning I doubt that there isn't at least a 5+ month long waitlist.

And why wouldn't they pay >100bb for 1 hr of coaching, when like 6 hrs of coaching will change theirgame dramatically and they will instantly be making 50k+ a month.
07-18-2008 , 04:47 PM
Doesn't Krantz charge $1500/hr?
07-18-2008 , 05:00 PM
back when I was loaded I would've payed keli 600 an hour
