i gained 14 kilos the first time i tried to quit. never lost them again.

The sickest thing Ive ever done for myself is to quit eating unhealthy snack foods. I eat whatever the **** I want (besides fast food) for all my meals, but if i have a snack it has to be healthy. **** like veggies and dip, instant oatmeal, fruit etc and that has kept the weight pretty manageable and actually has helped my poker game, healthier body = heathier mind.

This is a good way to start. I'm trying to get back into working out too but It's really hard starting from this state.

Ditto. I just quit buying those kinds of foods, so they weren't even around. Definitely helped me a ton the past two years. It is pretty amazing how much difference it can make.

Kind of annoying when you occasionally just want some chips or something to watch a game, but otherwise it was a pretty easy adjustment.

i promised myself to quit smoking and start working out this year, but i decided to try sne and now i can't even pee anymore.

btw, how much vpp/100 are you getting at 2/4? i played some thousand hands and i'm getting 0.49 there and 0.35 at 1/2. as far as i know, these numbers should be way higher.
01-21-2011 , 05:11 PM
not when everyone plays 13/11
01-21-2011 , 05:21 PM

For a long time if it was past midnight I would always get fast food. Instead I've just been going to 7-11, and getting a sandwhich and a snack. I had to change my diet after I stopped training MMA because I wasn't burning nearly the same calories.

im in the best shape of my life

going to the gym is obviously important (and actually gets pretty addictive after a while) but i think the biggest thing was when i got into cooking. now its really easy and enjoyable to make (mostly) healthy meals for myself

Quitting soda>>>quitting smoking imo
01-21-2011 , 11:33 PM

eating healthy is something I improved a lot last year. When my GF and I moved in together, she's always wanted us to spend more time together so we got into cooking and I can safely say it's one of the best thing to ever happened to me and my poker.

You can start easy with salads then when you are confortable with all the different ingredients and flavours you can start to use the oven etc...

Also, at the supermarket, only buy stuff on the sides (where the fresh products are). You can't go wrong with fresh products.

Anybody wants to share some recipes (mostly stuff I can put in the fridge for my daily grind) ?

lean cuisines are good for the daily grind, and only take 5 minutes

also, get your super bowl squares here: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/96.../#post24315524

Ya anything you can nuke that's healthy is solid for the daily grind. When I was in manhattan, fresh direct made a ton of really good **** that you could nuke for 5 minutes and enjoy - like shrimp and rice with vegetables type ****.
Having healthy snacks in arm's reach is always good too - I always keep granola bars, trail mix and bananas/ peanut butter nearby. I actually eat the most healthy while I'm playing poker and **** it up when I go out.

Tuna salad:

Get one can of tuna fish
Get a jar of mayonase
get a bowl
get a fork
Open can of tuna
dump into bowl
use fork to extract mayonase from jar and put into bowl containing tuna
stir contents
eat on bread or bed of lettuce

salad:
Buy bag of salad at grocery store
if you wish add other veggies to your liking that aren't already in salad.
put dressing on
eat.

frozen diet dinner:
Buy frozen diet dinner of choice in local grocer's frozen food section
follow directions on box for heating in microwave
pull back film
get fork
eat when cool

I thought he was referring to healthy stuff. Mayonnaise and Mercury seems to be pretty unhealthy.

for an easy/healthy snack you guys should try smoothies. buy a small blender and get frozen fruits and throw them in with orange juice. i have them for breakfast almost every day. so awesome and you can pre make them for a couple days.

other snacks
-get a veggie platter from the grocery store. usually comes with dips or you can get your own. no prep work needed

-organic/unsalted mixed nuts

and for all the soda drinkers
i've heard switching to Perrier can help. obviously much healthier and you still get that carbonation feeling. you could buy some 100% natural sugar free juices and add a bit in for more flavor.

fwiw if you guys are trying to cut back then breakfast should be your big protein meal. I have eggs and bacon most mornings for breakfast and I've never had less body fat than I do now, even when training for sports in colllege. high protein breakfasts with coffee boost metabolism and leave you feeling full and satisfied and reduce hunger cravings later in the day.

also if you're looking to replace soda and don't like diet just drink water with a wedge of lime squeezed in. stuff is good and really refreshing.

i've always assumed the stuff they replace sugar with in diet sodas is probably just as bad for you..am i wrong?

i went a couple months without soda last year and really didn't miss it. Now i'm drinking like 1/day for some reason..probably should just not
