It was the board's fault, not yours. nh

Also, lol @ villain for leaving 250 behind in a 500 pot holding top set.

$5/$10 - Took a shot yesterday @ Borgata....I normally play $2/$5

$1,400 effective.

Two limps...Hero makes it $55 from HJ with KsQs....SB and one limper calls.

Pot (185) Flop: AdJc10s....Folds to Hero who fires $135....SB calls.

Pot (455) Turn: 8d....SB checks...Hero fires $265....SB makes it $575....Hero shoves....SB takes about 4 minutes and folds....said he folded 2 pair.

Later in session....Hero makes it $55 (sitting on about 2k) with AA from HJ after 2 limpers...one caller to my left on Button (who had 2.5k), and same guy from above hand (who has about $850) makes it $215 from SB...folds back to Hero who makes it $650...Button folds and SB takes 2 minutes...says "you have another hand against me?" and finally pushes all his chips in.

I flip my AA up

Flop: A-10-10

SB throws cards into the muck.

It's nice to run goot when taking a shot....had my biggest cash game win ever.

Flopped a set of 10s on a board of As - 10s - 2s. Preflop raiser shoves all in on a massive overbet. I snap call. He shows Ac - 4s. He gets running aces for quads.
*sigh*

I am sure it will be something like... "Both cards must play" and they did not.

No BBJ @ Fallsview or Niagara (Seneca in Niagara Falls, NY only)

Btw: Quads vs. Straight Flush would have qualified (would have won ~$30K)

The Details

7c7s vs. 4d5d

$550 eff.

Hero raises to $20, Villain calls $20

7d6d3h

($47) Hero bets $50, Villain calls $50

7h

($147) Hero bets $125, Villain calls $125

3d

($397) Hero bets $355+ and is all in, Villain calls $355 and delivers the bad news

Villain was a gentleman, we all got a couple laughs and a good story out of the deal and quite frankly (although as the cards lie it's the worst beat I've ever taken) it didn't feel as bad as other soul crushing blows I've been handed in the past. It would have been nice if it happened in a casino with a BBJ but such is life.

A few years ago I was playing Stud 8 at Fort McDowell in the PHX metro area. They were in a competition with CAZ over BBJ's. Their BBJ was up around $225K and the rules for Stud was quad tens or better beaten, might have been queens/jacks, too long ago.

We were playing 5 handed, and I have JT and 9 up and complete, guy on my right has a K up and another player has the A up. I complete and we go 5 handed to 4th, I get 8 and the guy with one guy pairs his ace and the other pairs his king, aces bets, kings call and so do I... We go to 5th street still 5 handed and I hit gin with the 7, ace guy now has AAQ showing and king guy has KKK showing. KKK guy bets, I call as does everyone else.

6th street hits AAQ guy with a A, and KKK guy bets, I raise, two calls and AAA guy folds! KKK guy calls and two more calls...

7th street comes face down and I peek at it, F'me up the arse its the last king! KKK guys bets I raise, fold, fold, raise and we go back and forth a few times raising before he finally just calls... He tables his hand in a manner that it is easy to identify his 7th street card it was an ace...

After the hand, the AAA guy admits that if I had not raised he would have called. He would have been dealt the A for quads and KKK would have been dealt the K for quads and we would have split up $225K...

Pretty sick hand KUD. Lack of a BBJ is the biggest beat there...at my casino you'd be up about 50k for that hand.

edit- percula that hand is also a beat...somewhat self-induced beat, but beat nonetheless!

I think the worst beat I have seen was at a 3-5 game...pf action I don't recall, but there is about 200 in the pot and 3 players see a flop of

Kd7d5d

There's a bet, a raise, a flat, and a shove, initial raiser tanks and folds (and asks to see both hands of course), initial bettor snap calls.

Initial bettor flips up Ad8d
Shover has Kc6d

Turn 4d
river 3d.

Ouch. Perfect perfect. About 1500 pot shipped to the guy with the str flush. Though I guess he could have runner-runnered a boat also.

Won my two largest pots today, but for only about 600BBs total so nothing fancy. H1 I got allin with A6s on a 766 flop and hit an A on the river to take down 76o (didn't feel bad about that one) for a 200bb pot.

H2 I'm in the BB, UTG, seat 1, raises to 7, seat 2, 4, 5, 7 all call, I see QQ in seat 8. I bump it to 40 (waaaaaay too small of a raise, but I just wasn't thinking clearly) and....everyone calls. We see a 6 way flop with 4 seats very short, and another seat with 150bbs behind. The flop is QT4 rainbow, so gin!. I donk 100 to put the rest of the shorties allin, seat 5 folds, seats 1, 2 and 4 are allin, seat 7 calls saying something about pot odds. The turn is a 7x and seat 7 snap shoves for 100bbs or so. I call, he shows 74s lol, I show the nuts, and....Lose 1/3 of the pot to Seat 2 when his KJ rivers the straight, but ship the ~$900 night.

Brag: Up $1700 in 27 hours of live poker
Beat: I don't have the stamina to play for over 3 hours :/
Variance: Doesn't exist...SHHHHHHHHH!!!

Also, anyone on AIM who likes to talk live poker, feel free to PM me!

1/3 NL at Lumiere Place St. Louis.

Hero has 88 in the BB, MP limps, CO raises to 10, Hero calls and MP calls.

Flop comes 984.

Hero checks, MP bets 15, CO calls, Hero raises to 75, MP calls, CO throws out 2 black chips to make it 215. Hero draws wood and hollywoods for a few seconds before shoving for ~250 more. MP folds quickly and CO starts to tank. After a minute or two he shows his cards to his 2 neighbors and folds. One of them starts going nuts and says "OMG I can't believe you laid that down!!" I ask what he had and he said he had pocket fours. I show him my 88 and most of the table tells him what a great laydown it was. I was soul-read.

I have been a limit junkie for many years, but have moved to NL since I started playing down here in Florida as the biggest game I can get until July 1 is $2/4. Last night I had my first real glimpse into why NL >> limit with this hand:

Palm Beach Kennel Club $1/2 NL
Effective stacks $150

Hero is MP1 w/ AA

Preflop: 2 limps, crazy Asian lady (EP3) raises to $7, Hero raises to $25, 3 folds, SB shoves for $250, 3 folds, Hero calls all-in for $125.

Flop (pot ~$310): 844r

Turn (pot ~$310): K

River (pot ~$310): K

Spoiler:
SB shows 99 for two pair, Kings and nines.
Hero shows AA for two pair, Aces and Kings, and wins $310

This was the second to last hand of the night at our table and turned a $1 win into a $160 win. In limit I might have escaped with a few bets at most...

putting this in the brag category since I played this super agro and it actually worked...which is very different for me

After my realization that I was playing scared and needed to change, I decided to go test out my newfound confidence at my normal place.

$1/$2 NL, new game, about 10 hands in. I have played a couple of small pots.

V1 In the BB with ~$150 behind, just won some pots, seemed semi-competent.
V2 is UTG with ~$100 behind, keeps raising to $5 pf every pot he plays (LOL), has played more than V1.
Hero in CO with ~$170 behind. I have already decided to pick a decent semi-bluffing hand to manipulate my table image with these guys who have never seen me before.

Hero looks down at 56 and immediately decides that this is the hand. I am gonna raise pf with this unless people are going crazy in front of me.

V2 leads out with his standard raise to $5. 2 callers to me, I raise to $15. V1 and V2 both call, rest fold.

Flop is 427
I still can't really put either guy on a hand, but I'm quite sure they are middle pairs or overcards. But I'm playing the part of LAG girl, so here we go. V1 checks, V2 bets $20, I RAISE to $50, V1 and V2 both call! Now I'm more sure of my reads, both have pocket pairs, who knows what, it doesn't matter so much with the line I'm taking. I was now done betting unless lightning struck, and......

Turn is the miracle 8 (angels sing out in chorus, rainbows bloom in the sky...)
V1 bets $25 (rofl, live poker), V2 calls, I shove, they both call (I have them covered). By now I'm sure they've put me on aces or kings.

River is J

V1 shows a set of 4s, V2 a set of Jacks, and I flip over my straight and the table goes nuts.

Gawd, I got lucky, but the table was "afraid" of me the rest of the session, and I mercilessly stole blinds and limps and finished up 2 buy-ins.

Interesting place to make my first post, I suppose... anyways, just wanted some thoughts on this. I am quite new to live play, but I have been told, and try, not to look at my cards till it's my turn to act. My one live outing (which went quite well), I noticed several of the players behind me would already have their cards poised to muck before I even looked at mine.

Big misconception. You're not on TV, don't need to try and act like a pro.

The sooner you look at your cards, the sooner you can glance back up at the action and already think about what you're going to do when it comes to you, and what's the best line to take. More thinking time = clearer decisions.

Also, if you wait every hand till the action is on you, everyone will be staring at you when you look at your cards. If you're new to live poker, you will be giving off unconcious tells that you don't even know about. Plus the fact everyone at the table will think you're a massive douche for wasting time and hollywooding every small decision.

Don't make it obvious that you're going to fold when the action isn't on you yet, though.

Semi-brag and Definite Beat in one post!

Ultra Aggro-loose table 6 handed. I'm a tight reg.

2nd hand of the table. i $200 effective stacks. I get KK in MP, EP ultra-aggro guy bets $12, i raise to $40. SB calls. Original Raiser shoves for $300. i call all-in, SB calls all-in.

its KK > JJ > 88.....i triple up! yay!

2 hours later....

6 handed

Villian EP ($450) ish
BB ($200)
Villian SB ($600)
HERO - Button ($500) ish

Preflop: Hero is BTN with 8 8
EP calls $2, Folds to Hero (BTN) calls to $2, SB raises to $10, BB folds, EP calls $8

Flop: ($32) Q , 8 , 4 (3 players)
SB Checks Dark, EP bets $15, Hero calls $15, SB calls $15

I was puzzled with the SB dark check as he is tricky, and he's done it with PP before. but i'd think there's a chance he would, and i opted to be passive and not raise to slow play.

Turn: ($75) 3 (3 players)
SB checks, EP bets $40, Hero calls $40, SB raises to $80, EP calls $40, Hero Calls $40.

I think i made a mistake here by not raising, and SB doesn't have QQ by that min-raise, but I think EP is on a flush draw.

Turn: ($315) 4 (3 players)
SB checks, EP bets $100, Hero Calls $100, SB goes all in for $395, EP folds, Hero makes a crying call....

SB shows 44 for a nice one outer....
