(Not) tipping the dealer (Not) tipping the dealer

08-09-2018 , 03:06 PM
Hi all,

I tip $1 for pots at least $20 or so. I don't tip for smaller pots. I tip about an extra dollar for every $100 in the pot, so if the pot was $500 I tip around $5. I used to be more generous, but I've grown stingy.

Anyone else a bad tipper?

Thanks,
DT

The only time I think it's acceptable not to tip a dealer is when you only win the blinds, and even in that case, if it's a good dealer, I'll just give the $3 or whatever and act like I didn't even play the hand.

There is a tipping containment thread somewhere that this will get moved to. But I think you are more generous than a lot. Most players tip $1 or $2 with the occasional larger tip for exceptionally good work

That seems incredibly generous. You just gave away 100% of your profit! If you do that every time you raise and take the blinds, that can add up to 100s of dollars a year! This game is already hard enough to beat.

You guys need to expand your pre-tipping range.

Winning blinds is not a meaningful part of my winrate, but cultivating a loose image is, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper to do that by throwing $3 to the dealer and making a joke about it, than making big bluffs and getting called out.

Imo you should tip dealers when their shift ends, not after a hand.
Tip the dealer for speed/accuracy/service/table presence, not for the randomness of the cards that are dealt.

Having said that, i am dutch and thus cheap as hell. Sucks to be a dealer in the Netherlands, i guess.

usually if the pot is over 80 or so i tip a dollar. if i over 200-300 i tip 1, 2 or 3 dollars if i am feeling really generous.

small pots i try not to tip but if i am winning a lot i usually do.

it comes out i am tipping like 1.8 dollars an hour or something like that. which i am not at all embarrassed by, casino makes enough money with me not tipping like 4+ dollars an hour like some people do.

No tipping containment thread. Tipping threads are a no-go here.
