Commerce 400NL with 5/10 blinds

Villian is a fairly aggressive player after the flop. Before the flop he limps a lot.

I am dealt K4 in the cutoff

Folded to MP1 who limps, I raise to $60 ($50 isn't good for isolating) , MP1 calls

Flop: 567

MP1 checks, I bet $80, MP1 raises all in for $330...

why on earth would you do this against the player you described

He seemed like a weak player who makes a lot of mistakes before and after the flop

I have no idea what your trying to do here..
1. why are you trying to isolate an agressive player with a more then marginal hand?

2. Isn't this hand better in a multiway pot?

3. If he is limp/calling alot then are you not considering sc's in his range e.g. 89s?

Personally, I hate the preflop play (you have no information and finding yourself in a pot with a less then desirable hand with excalty the player you don't want to play in this spot). I don't like a c-bet on this flop given the preflop action and the flop.

As played, pick up your hand and drop it in the trash can on the way out.

This is bad. Putting in 15% of effective stacks PF is just too much to isolate a player. K4s just doesn't have enough value with stacks this shallow, especially against an aggressive player. I'd wait until you're deeper until you start making plays like this.

I just read this more closely, I didn't realize you were only 40bb deep. I no longer like pre.

I don't like pre either but I'm not sure what the best range is isolating these donks?
This is a hijack - but I'm often unsure what adjustments to make here preflop when I want to isolate donks like well under a full buy-in. Should we be raising less? more?

When you are playing with a short stack, it's better to wait for premium hands, because you can only fire two bullets before you're all-in.

Two big cards are MUCH better in this situation than suiteds. You either want a fold preflop or you want to be able to stack off on the flop when you flop top pair when the stack to pot ratios are so small. When you are looking to flop a draw, you want deep stacks so that you have room to play. Your positional advantage is also largely mitigated by the short stacks. So your "isolation" play basically takes away any positive equity your hand may have had.

In short, you kinda suck at isolation.

i used to play this game alot at the commerce and 40bbs isnt your everyday stack to get used to. preflop raise seems fine if your image is decently tight, but after that flop peel one off and hope you hit your straight. no point betting vs an aggro opponent who is gonna knock you off your draw.....
