The place really is a hell hole.
I don't get why anyone would say this about Vegas. I've been here, over the years, for maybe 3 months total. Every time I come here I think non-stop about how awesome it is.

The cost of living is low (this is especially true now).

The weather is awesome.

There is always something to do.

The traffic off the strip is perfectly reasonable; we have traffic worse than this in Virginia where I am from.

Really, I can't think of a single way in which Las Vegas is inferior to where I live now (Virginia Beach), and I could tick off several more in which it is superior. It's a lot higher crime than where I live now, but a lot of that crime is localized in neighborhoods I would simply never have occasion to go to.

Why do you think it is a hell hole?

I think the hand is a fold on the turn. Unless he's floating the flop oop with a gutshot he has no draw. A king really does make sense for a lot of his range here.
Yeah, I agree. I folded.

When he mucked his cards he accidentally flashed a low club, so I got to wondering whether he had shoved A X

But i was pretty happy with the fold.

So no sooner did I say, "unless I have a disastrous session..." than I had a disastrous session.

Had some big coolers and suck outs last night and dropped two buy ins.

Gluca was at my table again for a while yesterday, so at least I have an eyewitness. Man, it was an irritating session.

Thanks, everybody, for the good wishes for my dad, both ITT and via PM.[/QUOTE

your reactions were quite comical pethy lol, but yes you did catch a beating.

God, that hand where I flopped broadway put me on life tilt. the guy limped QQ in like a 7 or 8 way pot.

I don't even try to hide my irritation anymore. One thing i have noticed is that if you get pissed off at a guy for drawing out on you, and he actually didn't hit the obvious draw, he will very often show you his cards.

So it looks like it may actually be +EV to let some of these guys see how irritated with them you are.

I found this out quite by accident. And I don't fake the irritation; I just don't try to hide it like I did when I first got there.

But that is what that guy did. When i folded when the flush came on the river, he showed me that he had actually sucked out on me on the turn when the second ten came down.

So for the price of saying, "jesus, every frikkin' time," i refine my read from "this guy is an idiot who will chase flush draws facing pot sized bets," to "this guy is an idiot who will limp QQ in a 7 way pot and then take the 'fish with a flush' line."

always useful to know exactly what kind of an idiot they are.

That makes sense. I guess what I posted is more about people in their 20s-early 30s. Lots of guys I know have gone there, fallen in love with the lifestyle, gambling, and women, then a month later hate the scene.

For someone at your stage of life who isn't looking to find a girlfriend who wants something other than your wallet and will probably get a house in Henderson or Summerlin (can't remember the other one) it'll probably be a really nice place to live.

That's why I never show. I want to keep them guessing as to what sort of idiot I am.

I just got back from Vegas, don't think I saw anyone of your description. Where have you been mostly playing? Venetian? I think I was only there in a cash game for a couple hours.

That's a little ridiculous. The metro area has nearly a million people, and not every female in the target age range moved to Vegas looking for a sugar daddy. They grew up there, found a job with a company there, etc. If you spend all your time in clubs and strip clubs and casinos, then it's not a surprise that you would meet the kind of chicks you don't wanna bring home to mamma.

where do you think most young people who move to vegas to play poker for a living are spending their time?
mpethy's Live Poker Trip Report and Analysis Thread Quote

well some young poker players actually have skills interacting with women
not everyone uses money to get women

think you're missing the point..

If you don't realize that Vegas is one of the most superficial places on earth then you've never been to Vegas.

I moved here two months ago from Boston, and don't understand how people are so negative about Vegas either. Yeah, I've heard the "give it time" speech more than once.

But if weigh the positive against the negative I have no regrets about relocation. Especially considering those points that mpethy made which I highlighted.

I'm renting a place in Southern Highlands. To me it's like living in very reasonably priced resort. I can enjoy all that Las Vegas and the surrounding area has to offer. Yet I'm in a quiet residential area. It's an easy commute to anything in either Summerlin or Henderson. The Strip is only fifteen minutes away. If I don't feel like playing there I always have either M or Southpoint five minutes away.

Plus of course...I have a wide variety of rooms to play in. I've also joined a poker discussion group that is far superior to the one I was in back in Boston.

As far as being superficial, yes, the Strip can be in some ways. People use that though to escape their "normal" lives for short time. That's why they come here and what they are paying for.

But Las Vegas has sooo much more to offer someone who is actually living here.

I moved to Vegas in 2002 and I have to say I think it is a great place to live. I've seen a zillion great shows, play lots of great golf, and of course there is plenty of poker. What else could I ask for? I guess it's not for everyone though, and I have no problem if most of the rest of the country stops moving here.

Mike is coming back to town at the end of this week. Among other things, they are hosting a surprise party for the guy who is going to be my real estate agent if we move out here. So there are two good reasons for me to stay til Friday--to chat with the real estate guy, and to hang out with Mike one more time.

Add in the fact that if I leave tomorrow I have to rearrange my coaching schedule, but if I leave next week, I don't, and it is a done deal that I am staying an extra week and leaving next Monday.
He left LV on 9/27 if he was on this schedule.

Alternative theory #2. Split has gone power hungry and is eliminating his competing mods.

Facts.

1. Split lives in LV
2. There's a posted picture of the three of them together recently.
3. Buried in his latest COTW is a confession, if you read it backwards.
