Missed value, or smart check behind? Missed value, or smart check behind?

1/3 Harrahs NOLA: a godsend to any TAG.

Table is insane with straddling, blind raises. Hero made it 45 preflop when there were 3 straddle callers ahead and the flop went 4 way (good time for KK on button). Bet 200 on wet flop, 2 callers. Bombed turn, one caller.
Same scenario with AA on button except i 3 bet pre to 75 and got two callers!!

V1: (350 SB) MA Asian dude. New to table, but limp calling alot.
V2: (400 BB) MA Black dude. Having fun losing 800 bucks so far. Calls me down in both previous hands. In 3 bet pot, his suited J5 flopped two pair and was counterfited. J5! Basically massive calling range.

Hero: (1500 Button) not doing anything special, just playing ABC TAG. No need to be creative. Only bluffed once against a dude i watched for 5 hours. He barrelled every single street when he was preflop raiser. I showed my bluff Im a douche.

OTTH:
Playing 5 handed, hero dealt J-10s

Folded to Hero, makes it 13. V1 & V2 call.

Flop(39) J 10 4 rainbow. (Bingo, i know how to play this!)
V1 leads 15, V2 calls, Hero makes 45. (Small? Maybe)

Turn (174) 6, backdoor flush now.
Checked to hero: bet 100 (maybe small again, but all i am watching is that straight develop, mostly their ranges are super weak)
Both call!

River (474): 7 no flush (not the card i wanted)
V1 checks, V2 fumbles with a stack of 100......... Checks
Hero?

In my experience this usually means they don't want to face a large bet from you. Would V 1 have checked a 89 on this river? Would either play a set this way? One pair?

I don't hate the check behind, but after 5 hours you should know your villains well enough to decide whether you can get more value here; you probably can, though having 2 V's still in the pot can make one hesitate.

Bet $150 to get looked up by QJ or missed flush draw + weak pair. Snap call to a shove.

I would use bigger sizing, especially ott, but what you did is ok. Never checking back otr. Betting 175-200 seems best IMO.

Definite bet OTR. $150-$175.

Dangit! I always miss ops for value on river.

V2's fumbling is a tell of a moderate strength hand.

Very small chance V1 is not leading out OTR if he held 89 or a set. Too high a chance we check through.

All this = b/c river, I like $175 for some crying calls.

Yeah I blew it... I even knew what the fumbling meant. I was just happy to make it to river having survived two villains who are willing to ship for fun. Good news is I learned from my mistake and value bet river for stacks in a similar situation today. #playingranges.vs.whatbeatsme

Last question:

I read a lot of posts about thin value on the river.
Is 'thin' in reference to the bet size, or in reference to marginally ahead of their range?
The general consensus here was about 1/3 pot on the river, which isn't a massive bet.

Thin=marginally ahead

Dude you've got top two with a 1/2 PSB behind. Anything except shoving is bad.

Yeah a good value bet in this situation and cry call if someone shoves. If the stacks where deeper and you got check raised than more likely a fold

As played, shove

That run out brought in a lot of scared 2 pair hands like T7/J7

also someone can put you on a missed draw (AK/KQ) and call you with a Jx

fastplay this hand. Raise OTF to 75 and ship most turns is way better.

yea you can be beat but they are calling you so wide think you have to V! top two here. they are calling all worse 2 pair and some one pair hands. yea sometimes your be beat but phil Galfond once said if you aren't value betting and getting called by better sometimes then you aren't V betting think enough.

Bottom line: you're good here pretty much always. Bet whatever you think they will call.
