Position is the key. It would be worst to have him to your immediate right and field of 3+ callers to your left. In this position, you would need the strongest range to call.
As the field shrinks, your range expands. So for example if you are HU after everyone folded, you would only have to play against 1 player, and therefore your range in this scenario can be the widest.
Sounds like V is just shoving blind over straddles, and I would adjust from HU range of pretty much any Q-high+ and shrink the range based on number of players in the hand ahead of you.
In other words, if I am first to act with 4 players behind, my range would probably be TT+/AJs+/AQ+.
If I am HU, my range would be Qx+.
Adjust somewhere in between using reads and number of players involved.
