Every now and then a player enters our 1/3 game that will buy in for $500 multiple times. He makes it $70 to go with ATC pre-flop. He calls any bet post-flop with a pair or a draw (even if that draw is a gut shot) but will fold if he hit absolutely nothing and won't bluff if you show weakness post-flop (but will shove pocket 8s if the board shows 2 overs). Just curious if most people here would wait til they are dealt a monster pair pre-flop, just shove pre when we are pretty sure we are ahead to hope to isolate, or call when we have good odds and see if we hit anything on the flop before shoving. I know the optimal answer but most I, like most of us, do not have an unlimited bankroll. When I leave the nights I'm not lucky down over 1K, I question whether I'm playing percentages too much instead of sticking it in with more of a "sure thing."

If you're stuck 2 BI after a night (8hrs) it's not bad luck unless you were cold-decked/sucked out on twice. 3bet to iso the maniac with TT+, AK, call all other pairs IP to setmine if his stack gives you 11:1 or better.

Shoving pre with a super-wide range just to iso sounds suicidal, esp. if the rest of the table is loosening up to play pots with the maniac as well. Even if you don't get in any hands with the maniac before he busts, his money is still on the table (albeit spread out) and you can just play ABC and pick it up from everyone else slowly.

put $ in the pot vs. him when you are not folding.

I am always of the view that you should let maniacs hang themselves....... try and see as many flops cheaply as you can, and once you hit that decent flop, let him bet and bet away.

How are we ever seeing flops cheaply??? If he only comes occasionally, we need to make a plan for just those nights, and what it looks like depends on how he reacts to 3-bets. It might look something like this: If he calls three bets light pre, 3-bet AI a lot. If he folds to re-raises, just flat with AT+ and TT push on the flop whenever you have second pair or better, if he will really look you up with any piece, it will be hugely +EV.

This is super high variance. Embrace it or find a different game, at least on those nights.

I'd play as many pots as possible in position against him. Like others said let him hang himself. You said he dosn't like to bluff if he misses, so sit on a hand and snap him off when he's second best which should be frequently.

As a side I'd value sc and broadways and try to make straights and flushes and wait to get the money in on later streets as oppossed to 3bet shoving big one pair hands and getting it in on the front end.

Again don't gamble w/ him, lurk and wait to you have a hand and let him stack off.
