Hero is effective stack at $350.
Villain is a young guy, new to the table, and about $1000 deep

Hero is in MP with Qh Qd.

Villain is UTG+1 and opens for $40, (the standard has been $20-25)

Hero calls in MP

Three more players call behind me.
Pot is ~$200

Flop
Jc 3s 6d

Villain checks.

Hero bets $80

Folds back to villain who shoves.

Pot is ~$510 and it's $230 to call.

Wondering more about the play up to this point than the final decision.

Why didn’t you 3-bet PF?

I don’t think you can do anything other than call for these odds and your stack size.

If he’d bet a normal size, I’d have easily 3-bet to about 3x, but I thought first, the sizing felt like JJ+ and second, if I made it $125 and he shoves I would not feel great calling.
Maybe I’m playing too cautious, but I don’t usually see even AK open that big.

You need to 3-bet QQ preflop literally 100% of the time.

As played, trivially easy call

3Bet to $150. Jam flop.

As played you lose to everything. AA, KK, and JJ. He is a young guy so I would stack off anyways. Definitely not a trivial call in most of the games I play. That is almost always you drawing to two outs. But unknown young guy getting 2:1 what can you do?

ThatÂ’s what I was thinking, and so I folded. He showed KK.
Thanks for the input.
These situations where I know IÂ’m supposed to 3-bet/call but IÂ’m so sure his range is very narrow are hard for me.

Good fold. I think vs most players on a dry flop that is a fold. The only hand you are ok against is QQ. Maybe a few player do that with AJ raising big pre and check jamming. But against an unknown 20 year old I would hate it and put in calling chips. Probably close to a 1/3 chance he is clicking buttons or has AJ.

Also never show if you fold a hand that big.
