So, with 2013 coming to a close I thought it would be fun and useful for us to declare our 2014 goals.

Think long and hard about your goals and what you want to accomplish for the upcoming year.

It is helpful to not only have big goals but to also have baby step goals that are easily achievable and will give you momentum carrying you towards realizing your bigger goals.

Though it is helpful to have dream goals like "Win the WSOP" it is more useful to focus on goals that are more within you power of control like "Listen to 100 hours of Bart Hansen Podcasts"

its usually best to group your goals together kinda in ascending order from baby steps to big goals in such a way that they give you momentum and help you achieve that big goal

-baby step 1
-small goal
-baby step 2
-medium goal
-baby step 3
-small goal 2
-medium goal 2
-big goal 1

lastly, goals don't all have to be poker specific, there are other goals that can indirectly help your poker goals like getting in shape and/or eating healthier

anyways, good luck to all of us in the upcoming year

My 2014 goals are so contingent on what job I end up with and where it takes me. Assuming that I get shipped somewhere with a decent scene and that the job doesn't crush me, my goals are to make 2/5 my regular game and beat it over a reasonable sample and to take 5/10 shots without being scared money. I'm pretty over rolled for 2/5 at the moment., but it doesn't go here, so I can only play when traveling.

My goals are personal and have nothing to do with poker.

I will improve the quality of my life in 2014 and be happier.

I like this format.

Baby step: When I feel about 50/50 as to whether I want to play a tournament or not (simply because I don't want to drive there or whatever, obviously won't play if there are negative factors), actually get up and go play.

Small goal: Final table a non-daily/weekly tournament. I got 24th, 20th, and 11th in Borgata Poker Open event, WSOPc event, and 100K guarantee in the past month, but no final tables.

Medium goal: Cash a tournament for 5 figures. I cashed for over 5000 several months ago and had huge potential this past month but never made it happen

Medium goal 2: Become comfortable playing 2/5 and become a consistent winner. I certainly feel more comfortable now than I did at first but would like to continue with that.

Big goal: Win a real tournament. A trophy or a ring to go with it would be nice.

2014 Goals

Baby Goal 1-3:
1) Complete my move to South Florida
2) Finish Mental Game of Poker
3) Finish Little's Tournament Book #1

Medium Goal 1-3:
1)Play 1000+ hours by July 1st
If I stay in FL for all of 2014, play 2000+ hours.
2)Follow my financial goals as written in my personal goals (not public) without much deviation.
3)Play 2+ circuit/WPT type tournaments.

Big Goal:
Hold a $40+ hourly at 2/5 over 2014

In regard to my hourly goal, I would be satisfied with $40, but would really like to be at $50+.

Small: finish half the books I started in 2013.
Medium: start and complete p90x
Big: be rolled for 2/5 with nothing but poker profits. I.e. completely segregated and healthy BR of 10k.

Baby steps:
read one of them every day.
Buy the weights I need to complete p90x
Finish my staking deal so I can be in my own and rolled for 1/2 with nothin but poker profit.

I like the stepped sequence, but my goals are more general.

As I complete my first year of playing full time 2/5nl, I'm regretting a lot of mistake that I've made over the year. So ill phrase my regret in the form of goals:

-become an over rolled 2/5 pro (20k BR plus 2k "plan B money)
-ALWAYS exercise before a session (I'm a swimmer)
-expect month long + break even periods and budget/spend accordingly
-exploit the edges I currently see on the table, but don't have the balls to pull off
-be a better BF to the woman I love
-grind longer sessions
-cook more, eat out less.
-don't sleep past 3pm
-develop a social network that doesn't revolve around drinking beer.
-take my dog to the beach more often.

This is very interessting, because make your life quality better will often help your poker game at the same time.

Getting a solid balance in life between poker, friends, family, work and all sorts of stuff is the key to develope as a player in my experience.

The last couple of years i have really figured out what makes me happy in life, and what keeps a strong inner voice within myself. Its a process that never stops, but ive comed a long way- and my poker game shines these days.

All the best for you, and good luck in the task of improving your life quality

Life goals for 2014:

1. Lose 25 pounds. Currently 185. Going to start out by running 2x a week and going to hot yoga 2x a week.

2. Finish the last class I need to complete my AA, Intermediate Algebra. Going to make sure I go to tutoring when I need help and going to get on a study schedule and not wait until the day before a test to cram all the information into my head. It doesn't work.

3. Find a new job with a company in the industry I want to be in. Going to re-do my resume and finish the real estate classes I need to sit for the exam. Then start applying for either an assistant property management job, or finding a leasing job for a higher end apartment complex.

Poker related goals:

First half of the year:

1. Become a winning online player starting at 10nl and going as far as I can. Going to continue studying the game. Trying to watch at least 3 deuces cracked videos a week. Also just going to continue to analyze hands played with pokerstove, flopzilla etc..

Second half of the year:

1. Grind at least 20 hours a week. Should be easy enough, will stick to a Thursday to Sunday schedule playing 5 hrs during prime time.

2. Finish the year with a 30BI bankroll for 1/3 300max.

The first quarter starts in 8 days and I can't wait, going to take it one quarter at a time, and get the ball rolling.

I remember we did this last year, would be interesting if someone could pull that thread up and everyone could see if they met their goals.

2014 goals:

5/T reg.

Rolled, or on my way, to shot take 10/25+

Make (or at least seriously consider with actual research), one financial investment.

Party for week straight in Brazil when they win World Cup.

- medium goal: optimize my poker time

- big goal: crush 2/4-5
steps: read more (books, articles, 2+2), see more videos, post more, analyze more hands

- dream goal: learn play poker
step: to pray (very, very much)

Is't possible to learn poker??, so I'm not saying "I want to be the best player on the world", no.
I'm saying: I want to play comfortably 2/4, 5/10 and crush these levels in a standard table with 3 regular players, 3 medium players (no winners players but not stupids) and a couple of fishes (usually tights)
ok so, I will pray

Small Goal:
Play 2/5 at least 1 time per week starting in February.
- Scout the 2/5 every day that it runs and determine why I want / don't want to play in it.
- Understand the mental holdup for not moving up when I'm far too well rolled.

Small Goal:
Win 1 tournament with more than 125 people, and a buy in of $150 or more.
- Play in at least 2 tournaments every month that give me a chance to meet this goal
- Travel to MD Live or Borgata for their bigger events
- Make a point to study push/fold charts to complement/change my thoughts on the subject.

Small Goal:
Get to at least 1500 content posts before the end of 2014.
- This does not count anything in the chat thread.
- Must be strategy oriented.

Medium Goal:
Continue to make A- grades or better in all my classes this calendar year.
- Study (things that are not poker!) and don't skip class to go play cards.

Medium Goal:
Post at least 2 hands per session of cash, preferably 3.
- Write down hands that are non standard, even if I think I played them fine.
- Post them for criticism / comments.

Big Goal:
Cash in a WSOP event this summer in Las Vegas
- Enter into at least 2
- Play well

1. Continue to keep priorities clear: family, friends, health, work then NLHE.
2. Improve table selection, i.e. more proactive in table changing.
3. Add Bart Hanson podcasts to study materials.
4. Continue LLSNL posts / feedback.
5. Play on-line, using HM2 to analyze and improve play.
6. Celebrate others positive results even though I may be in a prolonged dry spell.
7. The above will enhance my chances of attaining long-term goal of 9 bbs / hour in live play.

Happy Holidays!

Poker:

-increase my studying-to-playing ratio
this means passing up on 1/2 sessions to study the game
-make sacrifices to play more 2/5
this will mean making a long drive/losing a little sleep at times
-improved poker discussion with friends who also play NL
talking about hands/sessions needs to be more focused
-get my bankroll to $40k
I hope this can happen by June 1

Non-Poker:

-spend some time with my grandmother (she turns 90 in the spring)
-stick with flexibility/strength workouts (in am in my mid-40s)
-more cooking for myself (see above)
-get a serious plan together for the next 10 years of my working life!

Regularly play 5/10 by the end of 2014

Travel a lot this year and play 2/5 to support that

Make $50+/hr at 2/5 over a 1000+ hour sample size

Dabble a bit in 1/2 PLO after I've established myself at 2/5

Goals are simple in 2014:

1. Going after even smaller edges - make more hero calls and hero folds, and be more comfortable with raised hands.

2. Develop an even more sophisticated system of tracking player tendency.

3. Improve my C game to add more combinatorics and memorize more odds.

Continue playing Bovada. Made that "From .02/.05c to 2/5 live" thread in challenges forum, and will continue with that.

Basically keep grinding on there until I can regularly play 1/2nl live.

Continue reading poker books and hand histories. Work on the mental game.

Seems like a long road.

Table select better.

Monday night, sat at a bad game for 8 hours. Shouldn't do that. Need to learn how to spot the best of the available games ALL the time, not just when I feel like it.

My goals are to top this years goals. Any advance forward is acceptable.

Its the coach in me that adds this as no more than a help to the players before me. Dont waste that much time on the poker books. (Before you stop reading this - thinking i am touting coaching - I am not)

You have to think and play "outside" of the box in order to achieve max results. 99% of the poker books are well within the box. Exploiting what the villains weaknesses are to the fullest is the name of the game at lower limit NLH. Seach hard until you find all of these areas of exploitation and I can absolutely swear that NONE of the poker books explain this to any detail.

If you want to truly stick out among the crowd of seasoned grinders, you must do and think differently, since its very obvious that most daily grinders seem to play out of the same playbook although there are different levels of skill within the same playbook.

Good luck to everyone for the coming year. I will be working hard to improve and hope everyone else will too, since it has come to a time in poker that if you are not advancing in skill, you are receding. Thats why so many players you will see dropping to lower limits over time. Its like the ocean tide going out, but slower.

Start from scratch, actually learn how to play instead of clicking buttons.

Build a bankroll.

Get to where I can sit in 2/5 games on occasion.

Non-poker :
Learn how to play the geetar I bought last month.
Start climbing again.
Yoga regularly.
Drop 25 pounds.
