LIVE small stakes pre flop play LIVE small stakes pre flop play

Hello all, this is my first post so don't crush me...lol!!

I am an experienced live NL player usually 1/2, sometimes 2/5. If you know the live game at all you are almost always dealing with 4-5 players in a pot. Raising 3x UTG is like putting in the big blind.

Finally, here are my questions.

1.When in late position, 1/2 game, with a hand like 10 10, with four callers of the bb. HOW MUCH DO YOU RAISE????

2. I noticed that if an early player raises to 3-4x, it is usally a marginal hand inevitably that guy gets 2-3 callers. Now you are in late position with a hand like KQs, what do you do??

3. You are now UTG with AK, how much do you raise??

Again, live games are generally filled with terrible players that all think hands like, KJ, QJ, 33, A6s, etc.. are playable from any position for any amount. Or the player is a nit. But, most of us know this already.

Some of my stats over the past five years I make approx $17/hr at these games (1/2)with a session winrate at 62%, I like to think I am a TAG. I am trying to increase these so that I can be comfortable playing 2/5 exclusively and winning more, thanks.

As is the answer to every question when playing poker... It depends. Raise an amount that will get you a favorable either amount of callers, or SPR. Obviously you can't always get your way, but after 4 people limp in and I look at TT OTB, I'm making it $40-$50 probably. How loose the table is playing will determine how much you should raise before the flop. TBH, I have mostly given up on trying to get a specific amount of caller and have just gotten used to playing 4 and 5 ways with basically every hand. It just means that you have to not cbet with air as much. They will still over pay with draws and top pair type hands.

short answer is that there is no static answer for any of these questions

you have to factor in table dynamics, history, and playing styles of the villains in the hand

typically:
1. 7-10x
2. flat
3. standard open

In a 1/2 NL game where the play is very loose and the pots are big, I would just limp with pocket 10s otb with 4 limpers. Farm for the set.
You would be investing $2 to make on average maybe $30+ when it hits. Sometimes you make $100+ when stacks are deep and sometimes you make nothing and sometimes you lose. But IMO $30+ seems like a good average. You're going to hit it about 1 out of 8 times which makes this play massively +EV

If you wanted to effectively isolate with 4 limpers I think the bet size would have to be like $14-16. but with pocket 10s you're hoping for no face cards. The odds of no face card coming on the flop is like 44%. When a face card comes on the flop, you're faced with difficult decisions. I like farming for the set because it makes my decisions easier.

With KQs otb I play them like AK. With 4 limpers I would bet maybe $14 pf to isolate.

Dependent on stack size, If you bet over $20 pf I think you're getting called with better and anything worse will fold. You're also risking over $20 to win $10 if everyone folds. This is not a +EV move IMO. If its not a +EV move pf, just limp and try to hit. If betting 7-8x BB is not enough to isolate that probably means the table is super loose. In that case, you can just sit back and wait for the nuts.

One question at a time. The answer as stated above for all of them is, "it depends." Before you make your next thread in this forum, read the stickies. Ask a question about one specific situation and give reads on the players. Let the question stay up for at least 24 hours before asking the next one.
