Hey all,

Just curious what everyone's call would be on this hand from a recent 1-2NL home game.

Hero is dealt K9s in CO with $125 behind
V1 is unknown/weak-tight (initial read, will later be proven wrong) old guy SB
V2 is weak-tight home game reg in MP
Both have Hero covered.

3 limpers, MP raises to $10, Hero 3-bets $25, V1 cold calls, BB and limpers fold, V2 calls.

Flop comes AJ8r.

V1 checks, V2 checks, Hero shoves (experience in this specific home game indicating that high absolute dollar amount [vs. pot ratio] bets tend to get folds from hands as strong as QQ and A8 in this spot)

V1 looks down at his cards, then at the board, and calls. V2 snap-folds. Turn and river bring red 5s for a final board of AJ855 rainbow, giving Hero K-high.

Assuming V1 has at least a pair of Aces, I pick up my cards, hold them in the air over the pot and sigh, "Take it down... Just show me an ace." V1 just sits there, giving me the angry old guy stare. I stare back at him, thinking he's waiting for me to turn my hand over and starting to get annoyed that he's slowrolling me when I'm indicating pretty clearly that I have squat.

I get tired of waiting on him and turn K9s face up; never at any point do the cards leave my hand. I tell him, "You don't even have to show me an ace, just show me deuces and you're good." He stares me down for a few more seconds and says, "So what are you doing? Are you mucking the hand?"

Lightbulbs come on; by some ridiculous miracle K-high is good here and this codger is trying to shoot an angle for the pot. I tell him, "No, I'm tabling the hand, it's live, and I want to see what you called me with." V1 flips over QTo for a busted double-gutter.

V1 calls the houseman for a ruling, arguing that my hand was dead when I told him to take it down. Houseman disagrees and rules that I be awarded the pot.

Thoughts?

For your question giving us the details of the hand wasn't really relevant and this more belongs in B&M not a strategy forum, but to answer your question yes the dude was trying to angle you and is pretty scummy and I wouldn't be very friendly with him in the future. Also you didn't muck your hand and "take it down" isn't really a verbal action. But even if it was the guy would be a scumbag.

Correct ruling. Verbal actions such as 'Fold' or 'You win' are not binding at showdown since there is no action to which you can fold or concede. Either your hand hits the muck and is dead, or you table it and it's live.

I agree u should win this pot. Never let go of ur cards until the dealer pushes u the pot. If I was u I wouldve just said "I missed" at showdown then if my opponent was shy about turning his hand over I would announce "K high" and if that didn't get him to turn over a winner I would then roll over the K9.

Your pot for sure. Saying "Take it down, just show me an ace" is not an action, nor is there a verbal action to be had at this point in the hand. The only way for you to lose this pot is if your hand ends up in the muck.

That said your comment raised unnecessary drama without serving any real purpose, and should be avoided. Me, I proudly table my bluffs
