Live 1/2 player considering Bovada as Training Aid Live 1/2 player considering Bovada as Training Aid

Background: Im a Live 1/2 player who plays anywhere from 15 to 40 bours a week. I have played for 10 years with a mix of live and online play. I have been a part of learning communities such as deucescracked and 2+2 for a few years. I am starting to take poker as a hobby more seriously and am in love with the game.

My current goal is to build my bankroll at 1/2 from 2k (small bankroll but I feed into it often so RoR isnt accurate) to 5k so I can take a shot playing 2/5 and continuing my poker development.

My question is wether or not I should deposit a portion of my BR (say 200) on a site like Bovada (I am a US player) and play NL10 in order to help develop my game. Again, the focus is Live play but I am not turned away by the idea of doing some grinding online either. I am really looking for it to kickstart my winrate at 1/2 by getting more hands in and more practice with some of the complex poker theorys I am well versed in.

Any thoughts, suggestions or feedback from personal experience would be greatly appreciated!

It couldn't hurt to throw a buy-in online. You can play a session and review hands easier online than you can live.

That being said I think you should post this question in an online thread. This one is for live low-stakes poker strategy and a lot of us don't play online.

If you're asking if it'll improve your overall live play I think that it will. It'll have you playing more fundamentally for sure.

IDK the current play on Bovada, but I've given up OL cash as a training aid, because the game plays so differently that it just makes me too tight pre and too spewy post when I play live. The game is just redic nitty on Merge, which is the US facing site I play on.

When I play OL, it's pretty much exclusively SNGs, because they are different enough from full-ring that I don't ingrain habits that don't work at LLSNL.

TBH, I don't see it helping very much. If you have been playing 15-40 hours per week over the last 10 years, more hands is not the solution. You need to start an extensive study of the stickies in this forum, including following all the links. When I was in a position to hire people, my question was not how much experience they have, but rather have they been improving each year or just simply repeating the first year over and over again.

I'd cut the number of hours you're playing in half and use the rest of the time in study including participation in this forum. Don't post hand histories, but rather look at the ones others post and give your reasoning for how you would play it. Don't read other responses first. You'll find in a short period of time that you'll get the feedback quickly whether you've understood what is going on or not. Don't worry if some other posters slam you. That's how you're going to learn what is the best way to handle a lot of tough situations.

I've seen a lot of people that just read the HHs, say to themselves, "yeah, that's how to handle it, " and continue to lose because they don't understand the concepts. That's why I don't mind providing guidance. For every 1 person who takes these words to heart, there's 99 that just read what what was posted and making even bigger mistakes. I hope you'll become the 1%.

If you are going to play online to try and improve your game for live, bovada would be the place. Definitely plays the most like live poker with how soft the site is overall.

This is something Im really concerned with that mixing games might not be the best for improving on one game though will improve my overall knowledge.

Im getting a lot of mixed reviews but I think the suggestion of increasing study time and hand review of other players is valid. This should probably come first. However, Im still curious if anyones had any success or failures in trying online as practice for live.
