okay so im kinda freaking out here cuz my current downswing has almost pushing me to the breaking point, for the record I have taken 2 15+ buy in downswings before this but this is almost double not to mention i have had 8 losing sessions in a row.

Anyways i know schawlie has posted some epic downswing graphs so i may as well post mine. In case anyone was wondering i am in a winner at 3/6 and 2/4 over 450k in hands. anyways flame for being a crybaby (im sure some regular can show a worse downswing) or suggestions are appreciated. Also ide put my hands into an ev calc but i have it in pokertracker 3 and i dont think poker ev works with that if anyone knows how i could still get it to work ide love to see how much im down in equity.

If I was a stock market analyst and your graph was a stock I was following I'd say not to worry, just a correction to take it back down to the long term upward trend...

if your winrate is only 2pt/bb (not knocking it as mine isn't significantly better) then you should expect some downswings like this from time to time. The closer your winrate is to zero the greater liklihood that you could have a prolonged losing/breakeven stretch.

Before I moved to NL I played LHE for a living. Due to the fact that the games are more difficult and the winrates are subsequently lower prolonged downswings were fairly frequent and everyone experienced them.

I wouldn't worry about it. If anything you should probably try to spend more time posting, watching vids, analyzing your own play via session review, and maybe cut back on tables until you feel confident that your recent troubles aren't impacting your play and in-hand decision making. If you've been a long term winner the last thing you want to do is to totally lose faith in your game because of a ds. however you can turn it in to a positive if you use the time to really work on your game and try to improve as a player.

at the end of a long downswing is when I play my best poker. I really think its a good thing to have downswings from time to time to kep you on your toes and learning.

I would take a break, maybe learn Omaha for a while or something. I would also get a Leggo, Deuces subscription and watch a **** load of videos.

i said this before:

watching vids might slightly increase your winrate, but it will significantly reduce your hourly rate.

If the winrate is negative then go for it naturally.

wow i'm glad i'm not the only one running horrible these past 2 or 3 months, funny cuz historically i've done well in late summer/early fall. But yeah, like everyone says Bill, probably just variance, the important thing is not to let it get to u and take time off if necessary, that's what i'm doin

tough spot billzfan

lots of problems in the poker market as of late and every poker player is currently experiencing the market at it's worst imo. When you're at an upswing, you're probably not winning as much as you used to and when you're on a downswing, it's seems to be a steeper one. I really think it's because the pie has gotten a lot smaller in the online poker market which changes your profits however, you're probably still winning relative to your skill level (assuming you were playing at your best ie not tilt).

One of the toughest challenges that I found in poker after playing for living for a few years was the ability to adapt and evolve with the skill level of the community. It's extremely difficult because it is cluttered with variance which deters you from finding the real problem.

The best way to deal with such a situation is to have confidence in yourself that you are always working on your game. And what ever variance you face in the future, you will know that it is just variance because you know you are continuously progressing as a player. Lets say you shy away from improving for 4 months, and the game dynamics changes within those 4 months; the fifth month of playing will be pretty difficult to dissect if you were to run bad. It'll be hard to tell if players have progressed (taking some of your profits), or if you were truly running bad. In many cases, we'll always go with "i need a bigger sample size to tell", so you continuously play with that same skill set which prolongs your progression and may even make you fall behind. - I have fallen behind because of this...

I hope this makes sense. Basically, I'm saying it's a tough market to play in right now and if anyone wishes to play in this current state, I suggest prep yourself for swings that you've never experienced before.
