1/2 NLH at local card room

**Note, this is a round-by-round game (every other round is PLO). I'm taking a shot in this game, as it plays bigger than 1/2 because of lots of straddling, etc. Don't flame me for this decision, I'm just looking for input on the hand**

Villain($300): 30 yr old african-american. Just sat down 3 hands prior, so no reads. Have never seen him in the room before.

Hand History:

Villain calls $2 utg
3 other calls
Hero($203) raises to $18 from sb with KcKs
Villain calls $18
Everyone else folds

Flop($40 after rake):
8s6x3x

Hero bets $25
V1 calls

Turn ($90):
5s

Hero bets $40
V2 tanks for 30 sec and calls

River ($170):
6d

Hero tanks for 20 sec and shoves last $120

Thoughts on this line??

Turn sizing is small I know, but it sets up a good river shove. I'm going for value here from 99-QQ, maybe 77 or some random 8 he decided to limp.

Thoughts on turn and river play appreciated, as I think preflop and flop are standard

I'm betting like 70 on the turn. As played the river ship is fine imo.

This sentence is a bit contradictory imo. If you want to shove river for value then it should be easier to swallow for villain; turn should have been at least $50 imo.

In other words if you are jamming river for value it should be a semi easy jam for villain to call. The smaller you make turn the large river is for him to swallow. Also in terms of "escalating bets" (yes I just made that up), something like $60 on turn makes $100 river shove much more reasonable. $40 to $120 is a bit of a jump.

Everything else seems fine.

I like $60 which is a 2/3 pot bet(pretty palatable for most villains unless they realize they are committed if they call), leaving 100 into 210 for less than 1/2 pot river shove.

This line is very very hard for Villain to get away from with any value hand. The turn call totally commits him to the river at over 3-1.

Anyway never less than 50 though which would leave 110 into 190.

It looks more like a bluff if you don't hollywood tank before shoving.

Also I am a fan of betting smallish ott then bigger otr. It is not standard. I like it because many villains don't think about the entire stack very well. They just think the turn bet feels weak so they call.

You were calling/shoving if villain raises the turn right?

Note: I think AA is in villain's range here.

Yeah I'd bet more on the turn and ship river as well. imo you have him beat on the river when he checks since almost all live player bet here with a 6, straight or set.

While I get what you're trying to do with the turn sizing, and as TripleH68 points out it can drag opponents along when they think it looks weak, I'd bet more. I find that making the river bet less than $100 makes it a lot easier for most villains to call. There is just some mental hangup about the $100 bet size that they tend to have. So in that case it'd be $65 on the turn.

Also, don't tank against a random. It might look bluffy, it might look strong, you really don't know how they're going to react. So take a normal amount of time and make your bet.

Oops, right. Yeah disregard my statement about always winning when he checks there.
