River: KdKs2c 6d 4h (pot: $35, 3-ways). BB leads for $20. Hero raises to $60. CO folds. BB reraises to $160.
Hero calls or raises to $260?
RESULT: Hero calls. Villain tables KT, Hero wins.
I think it’s a really interesting spot
because our game is $2-$100 spread-limit with $1-$2 blinds.
Like, if this were a true Limit game—if this were $2-$4 LHE—then the River action would go Villain bets $4, Hero raises to $8, Villain re-raises to $12, Hero re-re-raises to $16, Villain re-re-re-raises to $20….like, at that point, Hero is just flicking in a call, V is not putting in 6 bets without the nuts.
But in this weird middle game, where it’s KINDA like $50-$100 limit but with $1-$2 blinds….it’s just much trickier, I think. Your decision on whether to 4-bet with a non-nutted hand isn’t just costing you two big bets if you’re wrong, it’s going to cost you
100 big blinds (unless we are folding K2 on a KK642 board getting 6.5 to 1, which is insane.)
So I don’t know. I just witnessed this hand—I’m pretty sure I would have raised to $260—but I’ve been thinking about it a lot and I’m not so sure the Hero was wrong.
