Hi all,

H: playing tighter than the majority of the table but probably in general playing the most aggressive. I have about 550 to start the hand

V: older lady. Plays a lot of poker and plays a ton of hands. Does NOT like to fold preflop in general. She has gone thru like 1000 dollars today and I believe has me covered this hand by a little bit. She can be aggressive when checked to.

OTTH:

There is a 6 dollar UTG STRADDLE.

I am first to act with JJ: and raise to $22 and V calls in the HJ. Everyone else folds

($54) Flop is J K 3 we check and she bets 30

We act like we have a decision and eventually call
Thoughts? Raise here some of the time? Should we just bet flop?

($114) 8 we check again and she bets $75. We tank even longer and go all in...

Honestly it’s a massive shove but I feel like the hand just played out kinda weird. I thought about just calling and seeing what the river was (with plans to check raise the river) or lead the river

Thoughts?

This is a good board for a straightforward bet/bet/shove. You have middle set, if villain has KX or some straight draw they are not going away quickly and if they don't you probably won't get much.

As played call turn and check/rasie or lead river based on how scary it is. If the river is a card ten or higher you need to lead because villain may give up unless they made two pair. On lower cards you might as well continue your story and check/raise, but this depends on villain. If villain is super sticky consider raising turn to $200 and shoving river. That will knock villain of some weaker hands but if villain can't easily give up AK it give you the best chance of doubling up.

I would have just bet OTF. B/b is more deceptive and keeps V's continuing to river range wider than c/c flop c/r turn.

AP, c/r the turn is standard. But I would really want a call because so many hands are drawing dead against me, so I'm making it small like 190. Then shoving every river.

Checking the flop in this spot is your biggest mistake. Bet the hand for value so the rest of the hand can play itself.

I prefer to slow play top set rather than mid or bottom set.
When u have top set it’s hard to get calls, (because u have all the cards that your opponent could make top pair with)
When u have mid or bottom set I like to bet/bet/bet and hope that villain has top pair and pays me

Playing deep and OOP with this hand I typically just open limp and see what happens (perhaps reraising if there is a loose open with lots of calls). We ended up narrowing the field to HU (but honestly we likely had no clue what the chances of that happening were) with a fairly manageable SPR of 12, although OOP to a difficult player with a hand that will often flop horrible.

I would just PSB the flop. If she has a K it's likely a big one and we can start playing for stacks. If she has two big cards she has a straight draw, again, let's start playing for stacks. If she doesn't have anything, we're likely not going to get too much out of her other than maybe one or two bluff streets (although we also risk giving free cards OOP setting up a bluffcatching route).

I wouldn't have gone for the check/raise here but at this point being OOP I would now. Let's just hope she's caught enough to continue, otherwise a call / check turn line might just give her a free card.

Even as played I might just PSB the turn to make sure it doesn't check thru. As played, we got lucky in that she bet both streets for us. I'm actually cool with the check/shove at this point, especially with all these draws and her obviously capable of spewing money.

Pre-flop raise is good and advised.

As stated, bet the flop.

After checking the flop, I at least bet the turn. Would be pretty ugly to have that check through.

As played, raising turn is fine, but the shove might have been a bit much. I hope she thought you were bluffing or was good enough to call with worse.
