This is possibly the oldest fake-out in poker. Only, it is designed to get you to check all but your strongest holdings.
When I see this in a casual/weak player after I 3-bet the flop (and I'm in position), I change gears immediately. I bet the lower end of my range and increase the bet size and check behind the higher end of my range (set/top-two).
Then I'm planning to raise on the turn.
Note I said
casual/weak player. If I think it's someone who knows what they're doing, I continue with plan A (usually a c-bet).
