NLHE 1/2 9-handed (timed rake in Texas)

UTG+2 open limps. Tight player.

I’m eff stack with 200.

I'm in LJ. I raise to 7 with KK. I'm trying these small raises to get more experience with high SPR spots and to be able to raise more hands.

BTN calls. He's loose. SB folds. BB 3bets to 25. He is thinking player who can make tricky plays.

UTG+2 folds. Action to you. The pot is $42.

Your play?

Prob go like $55-$60 or so, make him defend all the junk he wants to 3bet with.

Well I wouldn't flat as it entices the BTN to come along, I'd much prefer to take the pot down now, or get this heads up (obviously the latter).

I'd 4bet, but wouldn't go huge as I'd like the 3bettor to continue. A 4bet to 60 would make the pot 148 with 140 behind (if only the BB calls).

First of all, if you want more experience in high SPR spots you should top up to $300.

I’ve played a lot of hours in Texas and IMO you’re giving up way too much value raising to 3.5x. Most of these players have inelastic calling ranges, so they’ll call with the same range facing a $7 raise as facing a $15 raise.

AP, raising to $60-$70 is fine.

This so much.

I think raise to $55 or $60. If we were a little deeper might jam. This shallow I might prefer jamming QQ, AKo. Mainly would want to 4bet non-all in AA, KK, AKs.

If we’re playing pure exploit I would rather jam AKs and only small 4b KK and AA.

Scratch your head and look nervous, sigh, then look annoyed and jam all in.

That's fine too. My thoughts are that AKs has better playability postflop than AKo and can easily call a jam as well. I guess especially as the SPR is going to be 1 or so AKs plays well as a jam pre at low stakes, but as the SPR starts to go above 1.5 it is nicer have these hands postflop.

The thing is we are not going to get in these spots opening to $7 with $200 in a 1-2 game. Again, I recommend if OP wants to play in spots with higher SPR, he should sit with $500 and open something more standard for the table, like $10.

If we ever want to have light 4bets in this spot, then we should be raising to $65 or 70 now, and with our whole 4betting range.

If we don't, then I think we should jam everything we're 4betting with. But I'd also defer to CIE since I have never been to Texas.

Thx for the replies.

I hollywooded by counting the pot. Then, I shipped.

This is from my short-stacking days a few years ago when I would ship pre with JJ+ and AK if the pot was at least 20%.

That worked well but I'm not sure if people still call light. Plus, I'm not short-stacked any more.

But maybe I would throw him off with the tiny raise and then huge jam.

BTN folded. 3-bettor called quickly with TT.

You are not deep enough yet that jamming doesn't make sense.

I have sometimes been accused of results-oriented thinking, but here I think the results show you played this well by jamming.

A 4-bet at these stakes looks very scary and people can sometimes correctly read you for KK-AA. In these spots jamming usually gets a lot of hands to call you off light, because they "put you on AK."
