How do you improve your live poker game? How do you improve your live poker game?

When we had online poker, we had many online poker sites doing videos and online regulars used these videos to learn and improve their skills as they move up to higher stakes.

In addition, they could discuss HH online with good players or even do online coaching.

What do live regulars do to improve their skills and move up in stakes?

I have not heard of any live coaching or live poker lessons.

And you obviously can't have someone giving you advice while you play live.

So, what are some ways you live grinders improve your skill ?

Well, there IS a live strategy subforum:
http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/17...low-stakes-nl/

Also, there are live coaches. I know Matusow pimps himself out, also Ed Miller ("Noted Poker Authority"). I'm sure those guys charge hundreds/hr, but you can likely find cheaper coaching.

And I know this is/was a common practice online, facilitated by our very own 2+2, but it's straight up cheating, imo, ainec.

Read the books and articles and LLSNL thread and play play play. I have found nothing compares to actual experience. Although I havent used coaching either so I could be wrong, however I bet loosing a few sessions will end up cheaper than hundreds an hour....

Check out this thread: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/17...group-1052652/

PM BAEVentures and join the Skype group. Not the most active, but we usually discuss at least one hand per day...

At the risk of a thread hijack (but starting my own thread is sometimes criticized too)...

...can someone speak of exactly HOW "good table selection" works for live play?

Am I supposed to hang out for hours and watch each table and watch each player to see if I can find a table of buffoons? Wouldn't that take an insane amount of time to do, taking up all my valuable play time?

If you play in the same room every time, you'll eventually start to recognize the regs; the really bad ones vs the really good ones. After a while, you'll also be able to spot the guy you've never seen before and probably be able to fairly quickly assess if he's just a fish off the street vs a decent player who's probably a reg from another room. Just get seated at your table and start evaluating it; if it looks like there is a few good spots, stay. If it starts looking bad full of decent to not horrible regs (something you'll recognize over time), then inbetween hands start evaluating the other tables and see if you should be considering a table change.

Thx GG... I almost never play cash (tourneys only) but I do live near indian casinos so I can play cash if I so choose... obv I would never be a "reg" nor would I ever have "a book" on each of the regs. I was hoping to hear there is some magic way of observing and evaluating quickly to determine which table I want to sit at. Typically I would just log in and wait for my name to be called and just live with whatever random table I get.

Where are you located, OP? I know there are good coaches in LA and Vegas. Overall, though, this forum is cheaper, more convenient, and you should learn a ton.

Many of those videos are still applicable. Just because they're playing online in the video doesn't mean they're playing a different game. (Unless of course you are watching some body play a different game; HU PLO8 SNG videos probably won't be an incredibly valuable resource for full ring NLHE cash games but some of the concepts will probably still apply.)

I know I learned a lot from watching some high stakes HU cash games videos even though I never play high stakes HU.

Players still discuss HH's online and in person and whatnot. You just have to remember them or write them down instead of the incredibly easy cut and pasting from HEM. Now you know about this forum, just like any strat forum you have to figure out for yourself which posters are good and which ones are bad. Not all advice is good but there's tons of great info on 2p2. Plus there's poker books.

While there are definitely big difference between live and online, it's all still poker.

If you're at a table of unknowns, there is probably a few ways to quickly evaluate the table over an orbit of two. Lottsa limping going on with very few raises? People showing up / paying off on the river with fairly bad hands? Fairly wack bet sizing going on? People playing with fairly smallish stacks yet limp/calling raises? You're probably at a good table and should stick around. Or, if there is very little limping going on, most pots are raised/reraised preflop and HU, lots of flops taken down on the flop, etc. then you're probably at a bad table and should move.

I play 5/10 - 10/20 NL live.

So, not sure if my post belongs here or not.

Are there any mid to high stakes live strategy discussions on this site?

Yep. Under "No Limit" called Med High Stakes Full Ring. Those guys have great discussions about 5/10 hands. Much fewer HH/threads than here (LLSNL) but they are much more in depth. Really insightful

Bart Hanson's podcast on Deuces Cracked and his "Crush Live Poker" series featuring live hands at The Bike are great for live poker analysis and seem to be what OP is asking for. They each cost about $10/month now, but there are a ton of his older podcasts still available for free.
