I'd say I've been rather unfortunate in business and perhaps fortunate in poker. Unfortunate because they do not balance out.

lsdee was clearly trolling/joking. I can only hope Hiro was or else wow. Obviously out him, obviously tell his friends about it I wouldn't pressure them to collect for you but if they're close to him and don't know about this you need to inform them.

Generally also poker players are honorable until money gets tight, then you really see who has integrity. The scum are the ones who look to shoot every angle they can using their reputation formed when they had money while the ones with integrity are the ones who would pay you the last $500 they had to their name if it means keeping their word.

You think they are your co-workers, but really they are your competitors in a (less than) zero sum game/industry. Be careful always/don't be too generous or trusting. And if you find a few outlier friends ("real friends") who will do anything for you and will die before compromising their honesty/integrity (zachvac is right, true colors are shown when money gets tight- and it does for almost everyone every few years), treat them better than you've ever treated a friend before, even if they have other signif character flaws/can be fairly rough around the edges- which almost all poker players do/can.

Shocked to hear this about Manny. I've been playing poker with the guy for a long time, and he's basically been a fixture in the NJ/PA poker scene for a long long time.

He does come off as a straight up guy, so this could be a valuable PSA to others who might get duped.

I'm going to ask him about it next time I see him.

Thanks G for putting this out there.

You sound like a 12-year-old who's complaining because life isn't fair.

First - you're making accusations on a public forum about a person who you're naming by name - who could sue you in a court of law for defamation of character. (BTW, your accusations may be 100% accurate... but that's besides the point.) Not a smart move no matter how pissed you are.

Second - you're saying you got screwed... but I don't see how. You made a bet that you hoped to collect on, you paid $0 for this bet, and you got $0 in return. How did you lose anything - other than respect for this guy?

Chalk it up as a life lesson and move on.

It's ironic that it wasn't until AFTER you won your bet and didn't get paid that you looked into whether or not this guy welshes on his bets. Maybe next time, you'll make bets with more reliable people.

Most poker players are always shooting angles. If you haven't learned this until now, then welcome to the real world of poker.
what?

OP, that sucks you got freerolled. Lesson learned here is to never make a bet that doesn't have an escrow. Cross-booking makes this virtually impossible so you're going to be taking a decent risk when you do so.

OP, be glad you capped the bet.

Since they capped the bet they could just each escrow 2k.

This must be sarcasm. I can't believe a live human would say this in earnest.

Please tell me which casino you play at so I can sit at your table. There are so few MSFR players who are more naive than me.

I've played with Manny many times and he seems pretty nice.

I'd never make bets like this though.

I would not crossbook in a big bet game unless it's against a real fish. These kinds of bets used to be pretty common when I played limit hold-em years ago.
