Game is $2-$100 spread-limit (max you can raise is $100 over the previous bet). Blinds are $1-$2. Mid-afternoon weekday, lotta limping and small pots, friendly game. I cover everyone.

UTG limps. Button (stack: $200) raises to $8. I 3-bet to $30 with AdKh. UTG cold-calls. Button calls. 3-ways.

FLOP: Qs9s3d (pot: $90, 3-ways). I check, UTG checks, Button checks.

TURN: Qs9s3d 8s (pot: $90, 3-ways). I check, UTG checks, Button bets $24, I call—I figure I’m either ahead or have 6 outs to get there, and UTG calls (I had assumed when I called I would be heads-up with Button. Oops.)

RIVER: Qs9s3d 8s 8h (pot: $160, 3-ways).

I check. And now UTG goes all-in for his last $90. Button tank-folds. On to me, calling $90 to win $250, is this a decision?

That's an optimistic assumption when a card comes in which completes both the straight and flush draws. The flop check back and small turn bet could just be a modest hand looking for a bit of pot control followed by small value, like a weak top pair or A9/TT etc (after the river tank fold I'd be pretty confident button had some sort of Qx)

It's true that your Ace-high is probably not much worse than top pair when it comes to the river decision. Still, what worse hands do you expect UTG to call the turn with? Something like KJ for a sticky gutshot? There's no logical hand that plays this way but this is a limp-cold caller so could have anything. Slowplayed monsters make as much sense as any - there are loads of those with a flush, straight and paired board. Stupidbanana's suggestion of 8x is also as logical as anything. You block absolutely nothing. UTG came out swinging against two opponents. Unless I'm misreading the board, it seems a very straightforward fold

Really don’t like the turn call. Don’t hate a river hero, he’s not repping much. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if we lose to like As3x or 55s

Just fold turn.

AP, fold river.

We only beat pure air. Not sure what pure air he has in his range, that also donk bets river into two opponents who put money in on the turn, when both straight and flush draws come in. Feels like 98 to me.

RESULT: I folded and V didn’t show. An hour later V made a big bluff and *did* show it, so I get the sense I made the right fold.

I thought it was a weird spot. The only Value hands from Villain that made sense to me were full houses, and the only full houses that made sense to me were 98s, 99, and 88…but it was also really though to find bluffs! (Basically just stuff like AJ/AT/KJ/KT.) But to complicate it further, there were all the “bluffs” I was still losing to (hands like T9 or J9.)

It was the only time in the session I tanked, haha, everything else was pretty simple!
