Hand Question, what would you do? Hand Question, what would you do?

Playing in a local casino 1/2 NL with around $150 in hijack position with 88 & 5 limpers around to me and I make it $6 and get 4 callers. Flop comes 10-9-8 rainbow. SB bets $30, BB raises to around $160, UTG calls. I am worried about SB as he seems pretty tight and aggressive and the other two seem to be very loose (especially BB) betting big on draws and 2 pair hands and seems buddy buddy with UTG and there has been some talk about them soft playing each other (flopping second set, betting and then checking it down when no other scare cards come out). Also there is a $600 high hand running and a bad beat jackpot of $150,000+ that pays out 50/25/25. SB has around $450, BB has around $350 and UTG around $200. I was pretty ceartin that they had the straight and not trips based on my read. Should I call? If they have trips I'm crushed and have to hit a 1 outer but also have the outside shot of quads over quads that would hit the bad beat jackpot. Plus I have to worry about the SB. How would you play this pre and post flop?

Not a jab by any means, but I think you'll get more (and better) replies, if you just clean up your original post. It's sort of hard to follow.

I don't like your small, pot-juicing raise pre. A $6 raise does nothing. Simply call or raise bigger to get only one or two calls.

It's not the best board 5-handed, but you're only 80bb deep, and we flopped a set. Let's GII.

Why is the bad beat jackpot playing into your decision? I don't think you should think about that as the odds of quads over quads are really low

I'd delete and re-post per the section titled, "Starting a Thread" in this sticky: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/17...-asap-1031043/

It didn't. I was 50/50 on calling and figured I had 10 outs if my read was right and new I was beat but was getting a decent price plus the added kicker of the bad beat if it was set over set and it came runner runner. I shoved and so did SB, BB & UTG. My read was right and the last 2 cards blanked. SB mucked and the other two chopped ~$1,200 with the Q high straight.

This is the gist of what I get out of your post:

1. 5 limpers already in the pot, you raise a raise to $6.

2. Three players are loose, one of them is scary loose.

Okay, the concept of raising here is good if the flop & flop texture are good for your hand. You hit your set on the flop. Now it is value town. You forgot flop texture. Next time you may want to take flop texture into consideration? If the board were something like 2, 8, 6, rainbow continuing is a better idea.

Three players are loose. Loose means they may have smashed this board, both top and bottom end. Scary loose means it may cost you a lot to see the river.

Your hand is 70 percent over. Fold.

Your planning is solid, but application needs more thought and focus. You will get there when you learn to slow down post flop. gl
