1/3 NLHE 9 handed.

V - Competent TAG. Winning player but button clicks sometimes. Plays almost full time. He's good and understands a lot but I think he just gets bored of the grind sometimes and tries to make silly moves. He's perfectly capable of reading the board, understanding odds and so on. 500$ UTG.

H - Not sure how V views me. I've had several hundred hours with him and he's seen me 3-bet everything from AA to 45s. Covers. BTN.

---

V opens 10, H calls with Q T, blinds fold, HU.

Flop 20 - A J T

V bets 10, H calls

Turn 40 - J

V bets 30, Hero?

We are near bottom of range, fold.

Depends whether you’ve seen him open AJo/KQo UTG before.

low variance: fold

high variance: raise to $125 and shove 355/290 on non-broadway turns.

Stacks are shallow enough and the pot is small enough that your turn raise threatens playing for stacks on the river which should get you some Ax folds. V really shouldn’t be double barreling AK/AQ on this board tho unless he considers you a drooler.

Bless his heart if he heroes you to showdown with AK/AQ unimproved.

A real high board like this is not the best to bluff on in general.

What is he betting the turn with? He could have AK/AQ, but his range should be polarized. If you are going to raise, maybe better to give up on the river, as too much of the time, after he calls the raise, he has a big hand.

Oh, Banana...

C'mon. If you're not going to 3B QTs on the BTN pre, then just fold turn. We have next to nothing invested here, and can't rep much for value.

If we wanna go full Doug Polk, I'd rather have QTdd if we're contemplating a raise. Something about blocking QJdd and JTdd when the Jc, Js and Th are on board, and unblocking V's AX of spades and hearts that had some sort of BDFD potential on the flop, but which might now find a nitty fold when the board pairs and the FD didn't appear on the turn.

Even with QTdd instead of QTss, I don't think it makes much difference if V is just going to continue with AA, AK, AQ, AJ, AT, JJ, TT, KQ, and any JX combo that might have opened UTG, which I'd guess could be KJ and QJ, and even JT, since it's 1/3 and V apparently gets loose when he's bored.

The only combos I could see V folding here that might raise pre from UTG would be ace-wheel combos that get counterfeited by any better AX, and even then, unless you have AK or AQ, your kicker doesn't play, because you'd both have aces up with a ten kicker, so he could still find the call with any / every AX combo.

The problem with raising to try and rep JX is that it's a rainbow board with no flush draw. V's most likely draw would be KQ, which was already there on the flop, so you'd only be repping boats, which wouldn't raise turn when V takes this sizing. Your boats want to flat call turn, and raise river.

You're not raising AX here, because you don't want to fold out V's KK/QQ that might barrel river, or check-call a small bet, and don't want to get 3B by V's nutted hands.

The only line that makes sense as a bluff is betting / raising turn AND river, but there again, I'd rather have QTdd than QTss, and either way, it's just too kamikaze for me to like it against basic low-stakes V's.

When a tag guy barrels this turn he's going to have a lot of boats. No reason to battle here.
