2/5 NL - Horseshoe Hammond

Villain: (~$500) Young ghetto kid, mid 20s. Bought in for $200, super passive & scared money.

Preflop: 3 limpers, Villain completes SB, Hero checks BB with 33.

Flop: ($25) 953 Villain bets $20, Hero raises to $60, Villain calls.

Turn: 5 ($140) Villain checks, Hero bets $75, Villain raises to $150...

actually 95 could be in his range as well since he was in the sb. standard cooler.

^ yeah because scared money players just bet pot/call middle pair in a limped pot...

Do you cover? I probably wouldn't fold cuz it's just money. But it sucks since villain is unlikely to be bluffing (or on a straight or flush draw)

This. I just can't see him calling ur flop raise with middle pair if he is as nitty as u say. And obviously he's not raising turn with top pair or overpair. So yeah your hand probably is never good. I expect to see 99,55,95s,53s every time. In game I proably call down tho and curse my bad luck

He might 'look' like he's playing scared. He IS playing 2/5. I don't see him calling a 3X raise with JUST middle pair. 95, and spades. I seriously doubt he calls a raise with 67,78.

Out of left field though, do you think he has TT? JJ? He also could have 99.

I hate to really make any decision here. Can't say really what I would do unless I was there.

Call. Evaluate river. I'm willing to check it down if he really is that scared.

Scared money might limp with 1010 for a safe flop oop.

Therefore 55+ is def in his range.
Scared money isn't playing A9 this fast either.
Pretty sticky and fishy
Folding and shipping are pretty close
I'm shipping here but that's just me.

Yep.

He could easily be overvaluing trips here. It really feels like trips as the board is pretty locked up otherwise.

Is he so passive he would complete with 99 pre? If not we have 1 combo of 55, and 6 combos of 95. We have approximately one bajillion combos of 5x.

Fine with shipping. Though I don't think folding would be as terribad as some would make it seem. And I like never fold sets/boats.

scared money bombs with 99.

This is a super clear call. If villain's range is as tight as you seem to think it is, shoving doesn't actually get value. You're getting freaking 4.86-1. If you think that he can't show up with something worse than a boat 83% fine then, I'm not there so who am I to say you're wrong. However, you better be damn sure.

Again, this is a kind of spot that you really shouldn't lose any sleep over. Even if folding an underboat is correct here, folding underboats at 100bb has just about no effect on your winrate.

I know you've given us a general description of the player, but do you have an example of a hand that enabled you to make this assessment?

I have a general stereotype in mind, and it actually sort of jives to this hand, too. If he fits, he's passive/scared-money in that he's not 3-betting almost ever but he's calling more than he ought to because he doesn't understand betting patterns and/or ranges and he will get excited and open up a little when he hits his gin card.

If that sounds right, get it in. If it sounds wrong because this guy is more like a retired old guy, re-assess.
