I'm sure someone has asked this before, but wanted to see if it is our responsibility to let a player know he is exposing his cards? Or should we be using every edge possible? Thoughts?

It's a players responsibly to protect their hand.

Don't say a thing and use the information to your advantage.

It depends if you ask about online or live game?
In most online rooms they don't have cameras that can catch you peeking at others' cards.

You should not be a ****ty person and say something. Poker should not be a game where preventing other players from cheating you is an important skill. Making it an important skill is an excellent way to turn casual players away from the game. No one likes being cheated, and no one likes the stress of having to worry about being cheated on their nights off.

If you're not good enough to beat the games without cheating and angling people out of their money, quit forever. If you are good enough, but you cheat and angle anyways because you think making more money is more important than treating other people fairly and with respect, kill yourself.

I get that it's probably best to keep it to myself when I can see someone's cards and that I shouldn't expect others to tell me when they can see my cards, but I just couldn't sleep right if I decided not to tell someone I can see their cards.

So I always say something. I'm there to win, but I want it to be fair.

Hmmm...I agree with NeverBscared, although sadly I think most players would not agree.

I always warn them once just so I dont get accused of cheating if I get caught looking later. I even tell them "I cant help but look because damn, it's your ****ing cards!" They usually laugh and agree and make an attempt to cover up more.

We aren't angling or cheating.

If the guy has a live tell should we tell him this as well?

Where do you draw the line. We are in the business to exploit others for making mistakes.

Well thats like blaming him for not realizing he's playing with marked cards. You now have information that he doesnt. I draw the line at staying within the rules. The rules state you are not supposed to be able to see your opponents cards. That is how the game is meant to be played.

What do you think angling means? You're doing something that is technically within the rules but is against the spirit of the game to gain an unfair advantage.

Its called keeping the integrity of the game. If someone is exposing their cards or mucking them too high it is your duty to let everyone know what you saw otherwise you are cheating. I know most people don't do this because I regularly announce that I see cards or imperfections in cards way more then anyone else despite not having close to 20/20 vision. Integrity of the game also encompasses rule enforcement even if you are not in the hand. The dealers don't catch everything and often don't know the rules as well as the players and even the floors aren't always right so it is up to the players to make sure the rules are correctly enforced even if the casino and players involved seem unsure or ignorant.

I'll tell someone once or twice....beyond that it's their responsibility to protect their hand.

Depends on who it is. I'll tell a decent, well-mannered human being every time, particularly if he's older or obviously new to the game. Scumbags and slow-rollers? They're on their own.

Unknown players I give one fair warning letting them know I can see their cards. After that it's up to them to cover them up better. Not my responsibility to keep on reminding them.

I agree with this. You can only do so much and I can't guarantee I won't look.

Also if someone isn't protecting their cards they're more than likely a rec player or better yet a fish.

Telling that kind of player is good for the game because it makes the fish feel more comfortable and may prevent them from losing money faster due to cheats/angleshooters.

It may be good to you personally as well bc the rec/fish may become more friendly towards you which may lead to beneficial scenarios for you later on (checking back better hands).

This seems pretty ridiculous. Accidentally looking at your cards so someone else can see them is far from a live tell.

I'd rather win someone's money than pick it up off the floor after it drops out of their pocket.

I'd tell him every time.
